Hi guys, I have posted before but did not really introduce myself, so a quick background.
I have smoked for almost 30 years and in the last few years I have smoked between 40 & 60 cigs a day. My father died a few weeks ago with lung cancer and although he had not smoked for 40 years it was something of a wake up call for me.
I have been vaping for just over a week and have so far felt no need for an ordinary cig ( my wife thinks I am doing really well but I have found it really easy -something I sort of play on).
My set-up is a battery holder (called the "BB") with a 3.7v battery,Low Resistance Atomiser - 1.6 Ohm and cartridge`s which I refill.
The problem is that I fill the cartridge several times in a day and occasionally I have to adjust the "wick" (not sure of the tech term) on the atomiser using tweezers and just a few minutes ago I pulled it right off rendering it useless.
Am I missing something ?
Is my set-up totally wrong?
Maybe I am just too heavy handed?
Is there something which I could put between the cartridge and the atomiser so that I don`t need to keep knocking the "wick" of the atomiser?
I would appreciate your thoughts.

you might wanna look into some tank like systems, theres alot of them out there. the cartridge game is a game we've all played and most of us have abandoned cartridges and moved on to cartomizer/tank systems or gone to direct dripping. theres also tank atty combos like the ce2's and some other's. but this is the point where the wallet starts to suffer! you have to just go to some vendor sites and look in to some new options to try! i know its not alot of help, but i just want ya to know your not doing anything wrong, its just cartridges seem to be the least popular option!!

I would recommend getting some cartomizers and using them. A carto is a cartridge and an atomizer in one. They are a lot more consistant than an attys and a cart and most people prefer them. They also hold alot more juice so you wouldnt have to refill constantly. Cartridges can be really inconsistant and randomly dump half their juice into your mouth. I think youll find a good cartomizer a lot less of a hassle to use.

The BB is 510 threaded which is good because there is a wide array of cartos you could use.
What voltage are you vaping at?
There are many different ones you could use but I would get a pack of Boge cartomizers to start. The Boges are very popular and work really well. Plus they are easy to use so they are good to learn on. Then once your comfortable with them you might want to try a bigger carto that will be able to hold more juice and you could refill even less frequently. If your vaping at 3.7V then Id get the Boge 2.0ohm cartos to start. They will give a warmer vape and more TH than the boge 3.0ohms and most people prefer them. And then for a bigger carto for 3.7V I would try the "Ressurector" cartos from CCV. They are 1.7ohm so they give a nice warm vape and great TH, but they also hold alittle over 2ml of juice so they last a long time before needing a refill. I think you would like them a LOT more than what your using now. Personally I prefer regular cartos like what I mentioned a lot more than cartos like the CE2/CE3's. They can be very finicky and leak a LOT. I would think You might get annoyed with something like that, based on the way your talking about attys and cartridges. Those cartos have to be modded and the wick adjusted frequently just to get them to work like they are supposed to. A regular carto like a Boge or something are a lot less of a hassle and generally "just work" which it seems like thats what your looking for

Its is good to keep an atty or 2 around tho for testing juices. Never fill a carto if you dont know if you like the juice bc then if you dont your wasting a carto. You can direct drip onto an atty to see if you like a juice, then fill a carto if you like it. Dont throw the atty out that you accidentally pulled the wick out of. While you wouldnt be able to use that with a cartridge attached to it now, you could def use it for dripping to test juices.

I am an atomizer despiser and cartridge hater (after using them for the first month of vaping) but hopefully somebody will help you with that.

Exactly what kind of atomizer are you using? Normal atomizers usually don't require any adjustment to the wick. BTW you can still drip on a wickless atomizer. If you have no drip tip, you could drill a bigger hole in the mouth end of an empty cartridge. But you cannot use cartridges with no wick. The wick IS what brings the liquid from a cartridge to the atomizer coil down below the bridge.

Most people use cartomizers for everyday vaping and atomizer w/ a drip tip for testing juices and occasionally vaping of juice that they don't vape all the time and ones that are too thick (too much VG) to work well in cartos (cartomizers). The most popular cartomizers on 3.4-3.7v fat battery or mods are Boge 510 2ohm cartomizers. I use the 3 ohm ones which are not as warm (but they are easier to learn on - won't singe as easily if the juice level gets too low). I buy them at Liberty-Flights.com, LiteCigUSA.net, NiteLiteVapor.us, and Goodprophets. And Crystal Clear Vaping has a good price on 15 at a time.

I use thin juices - 80PG/20VG or less VG. 70PG/30VG will work but I get better life out of a carto with less VG. I also try to avoid all dark, opaque, cloudy juices that drop flavoring sediment in the stuffing - sediment gunks up atomizers and cartomizers, weakening the vape and flavor, and degrading the wicking and airflow. With thin clear juices I can usually get 10 days out of a Boge (about 20ml run through it). What I love about cartomizers is every time you start a fresh one it's like your ecig is brand new. bit of a learning curve learning to fill completely, cleanup, settle, and learning to sense/see when you need to add more juice but very worth it. I think cartos give a much more consistent vaping experience.

For future reference...

How I fill V4L/Volt/Bloog KR8 cartos and Boge 510 cartos

With the carto off the battery... Pop out the soft cap with an unbent paperclip in the mouth hole, very careful not to catch stuffing or the wire loop.
Shake and open the eliquid

Fill
Hold a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole (or use the carto condom spike to block the hole),tilt the carto, and add 18 drops per ml of capacity into the stuffing (Boges and most KR8 cartos are about 1ml). You may need to wait a bit for the first few to soak in, then continue. After getting the 18 in, wait 15 seconds or so then see how many more drops the carto stuffing will soak in easily.

Cleanup
Clean up the threaded end, tilt open end down into tissue, puff into threaded end to clear air channel (Boges and the KR8 cartos I use have a defined center air channel and I want to see light through that) While the carto is still open end down, touch a soft bunch of tissue to the top of the stuffing to get the loose juice - this will help prevent leaks.

Settle (first fill only)
Cap and let it settle - I lay it on different sides and on the ends for 15-20 minutes to make sure every bit of stuffing gets damp so I won't singe the carto. if you use thicker juice than me (I use 20% Vg or less) then you may need to wait much longer.

While vaping
While vaping, if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or the carto is getting hotter than normal, I take the carto off the battery and add eliquid. Also, I use such light sediment-free juices, I can look at the stuffing and see if it needs juice because the stuffing goes back to near-white.

I often use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece on Boge and KR8 cartos (not to drip into since the juice would head for the central air channel). Easy to pop out to add juice.

Thanks for the extensive replies guys - lots of info for me which I still have not taken in properly.
When I found I could stop smoking with my first E-cig and holidays approaching, I sort of panic bought lots of useful (and useless) stuff and have already some 510ECO Cartomizers, so I will try with them at some stage but have a lot of cartridges to use as well. I will certainly look at the Boge carts in the future.
@ dormouse -second time you have given me a ton of useful info -thanks. I have tried to find the make of atomiser but unable to do so at the moment.(I paid paypal -no info and can`t log into the site at this minute)
