Atomizer/Cartomizers needs to be "pumped".

So, I'm filled with coffee and out of atomizers and cartomizers at the moment so forgive me if I sound upset. :)

I've been having this problem for months and can't figure out why this happens, so let me ask you experts. Why do I need to pulsate or pump the power button in order to take a hit off of the correct ohm resistance atty/carto while vaping at 6+ volts?

For example, I have an old 5 ohm rated cartomizer in front of me that worked flawlessly several weeks ago at both 6 and 7.4 volts. From vapor production, to throat hit, to flavor. Right now, it refuses to stay on for more than a half second, and will continue to get progressively worse. So in order to take a drag, I have to keep pumping the power button for it to stay on.

Is this some sort of safety feature? Are my batteries turning it off? Is the PV turning it off (using both roughstack and acrylic tube mod)? Do all of these dozens of old atomizers and cartomizers just have a common problem?

That's five atomizers and at least 25 cartomizers (different manufacturers in most cases) that are all the problem? It just seems unlikely, especially considering the problem doesn't exist when used at lower voltages. For example, a 5 ohm cartomizers that I would otherwise "pump" to get a decent drag off of a 6+ volt device will not have to be pulsated or pumped on a 3.7 volt device. It will work normally, with the exception of obviously producing far less vapor and throat hit.

So I just got a new pack of Smok Tech 5.0 ohm cartomizers in the mail. First one immediately started turning itself off (requiring me to "pump" the button), second one has just started doing it after about 7 hours of use. I'm at my wits end here. Atomizers are unreliable and last only a few days, 2.0 ohm cartomizers lose performance after a few refills and apparently the high voltage atomizers/cartomizers simply don't function properly on high voltage PV's (for which they're designed for). This is getting to be a deal breaker for me.

Any suggestions on what's going on would be appreciated

Edit: I can put up a video of what the specific problem is if I'm not articulating it well enough.
