Okay, so I am late to this, but I read somewhere (can't find it now) that you can just pull the filler out of any 510 carto, drip a few drops in, and taste away.
This would make sense to me, but I don't know for sure what the issues are. Is this bad info?

Hmmm ... that has me thinking, can I just pull all the wicks out of a Protank 2 or iSmoka BCC coil and drip directly onto it to try flavors? I'm sure I can find a coil around here that would work for it ... Conceptually it doesn't sound any different...
With WICKS it's another matter entirely. If you try to rip out the wicking, you'll wreck the coil. Besides, dripping atomizers and such have wicking in them (most). Something has to get the juice to the coil without flooding it. The coil sits in a little ceramic cup on most designs. Now for clearos/tanks/etc sometimes the coil is just floating around the wicks.
Of course, there's 100 variations on a theme. But the coil is not just sitting at the bottom of a bowl of e-juice. Otherwise, all our tanks would just have a coil floating in them.
I would just like to find something similar to those.... and when I search for these-the pictures never show if they are the ones with the mesh inside. Are "bridged atomizers"-rebuildable or disposible?

LOL ... what I should have said (and actually meant to say) is "flavor wicks", or is this even necessary? I was just thinking it might take the risk of burning the wick out of the equation... Thanks for the info!

However, there are 100 ways to clean an atomizer and literally 1000 or more threads about it on the forums. Here's one video with vinegar and baking soda. Nice idea, but hard to get the vinegar taste back out. Still, a good cleaning solution, and non-toxic. Some use alcohol, ultrasonic cleaners, etc.
Like I said, hot water is probably the easiest. And since a (what used to cost) $7.00 atomizer lasts me 1 or 2 months of 100% use, if you just use it for taste testing it could last you a long time. Get 2, so you have a spare. Clean it and let it dry. Maybe store it with a drop or two of VG in it.

IDK. I have heard of people that use top-coil tanks with wicks....like a Vivi-Nova or such...dripping into them to test flavors. But it's real hard to get the old flavor out first, unless you clean the wicks.
The atomizers with little wick tend to clear flavors out quicker, IMO. Kinda depends on what you are doing and how you're doing it.

I remember trying to clean 510 attys. I messed with vodka, PG flush, sonic cleaner, etc, etc... In the end the best method I found was to toss it and put on a new one.
I got a 306 atomizer to test e-liquids with. Tried it out last night. When I did it right, it worked fine. When I didn't, I got a big mouth full off burnt metal. I got to the point where I really didn't want to take the next puff because I was afraid I would get the burnt taste.
I'll play with it some more this weekend and see if I can get it right, but right now I'm thinking I'm just going to buy a bunch of cheap cartos and use those to test new flavors with.
