I just advised someone that no question was too dumb to ask so here I am asking a dumb one myself.. ;-) I have been vaping now for about 3 months. On the advice of a poster on a "what to buy thread", I bought 2 Joyetech 2.3 ohm atomizers when I purchased my starter kit along with Vision V2 clearomizers and a couple packs of boge cartomizers and two stainless drip tips. I did not know what to do with the atomizers so I just left them wrapped up for three months. After reading about dripping recently, I decided to pull them out and give them a try. I dripped some juice in them and all the juice just came out of the bottom (battery end) hole. I tried it again and duh!! Same thing I have Ego C Twist batts. I don't want to screw them on only to flood my batts. I have never used only attys before and no instructions came with them. Am I missing a part?? What am I doing wrong. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

How much juice did you drip into them? On a new atomizer you first need to blow out the primer fluid if it has any inside. Then drip 5 or 6 drop of juice into it and let it sit for a few minutes. Vape cautiously for the first few hits because it can be pretty harsh until the remaining primer fluid burns off. After a few hits the flavor should improve and you're ready to go. When refilling an atty for dripping it'll only take 3 or 4 drops each time and you should get around 10 to 12 good hits before you have to drip again.

Here's how I set mine up
    P1000581.jpg

    from left to right
    #1 sealed 510 shorty extension
    #2 atomizer
    #3 drip shield
    #4 drip tip
The drip shield has an o-ring in it that sits just below the atomizer connection. This makes it work like a drip well and collects the leaking juice. Then when you draw on the atomizer that juice is pulled back into the atomizer for use.
They also make "drip shield cones" for use on eGo type PV's (do not need the extension)
I get my shields from empiremods.com

BTW The # of drops is determined by the atty too. Also your "style" that you develop. So maybe only start with 4 drops, then 3 each time... if it gets too dry or burns, you're not dripping enough or dry adding a drop. If it leaks...that's too many drops. The wicks/mesh/cup only holds so much at a time. The idea is to keep it wet but not flooded.

Thank you to Tj9, AttyPops, and cskent for your answers. But I am still a little confused. So, if I understand, the attys I have are really no good by themselves? I need to order an extension and a drip shield? Does the atty screw directly onto the battery or does the extension go on first then the drip shield and the atty last? I am having a hard time picturing this... ;-) Everytime I put a drop of liquid in my atty, it just runs out the other end.

I dont use a drip shield either. Dripping a more of a ritual than a mindless thing I still count how many puffs I have taken since I last driped and also monitor the taste to watch for it to start to weaken. It's something I started doing about a year ago and still do. I take long monster hits so I only get 5-6 good hits before I need another 3 drops. At this point I don't have to concentrate on it like I used to have to to avoid dry hits but if I stop and think about it I still in the back of my mind know how many hits I have left. Its like I have a built in subconscious puff counter. Keep with it you will get the hang of it and soon you will never leak a drop and never have a dry hit. You just have to learn your attu once the two of you are in sync its great.

Thanks phil, I am starting to get the hang of it. I could taste the hits getting drier as the liquid dissipated. I can see now how you can gauge the number of hits per drop. I can also understand the ritual aspect to. Kind of like ...........
