You can refer him to this:

Mini Enforcer Personal Fire Extinguisher

I've been vaping for more than 2 years now and done the dry burns on coils. Never done it on cotton though because I can see where it would catch fire if the wick was almost dry. Cotton is cheap enough so there's no point in trying to make a cotton wick last longer.

My #1 guess would be he has a short. running .4 coils, he's probably using fairly thick wire. perhaps part of his coil is touching the deck causing a short. Also, ejuice CAN ignite if it gets hot enough. I actually ignite it when I am oxidizing mesh...it seems to burn fairly clean with no visible smoke/vapor, and will sustain a fire. If he happens to get his coils hot enough and have a big enough airflow hole, I would imagine it's quite possible.

I have had it happen when I have flood an atty that has a coil in dire need of a cleaning. The juice was feeding a flaming cotton wick. Looked like the flame on one of the little birthday cake candles. S'moores flavor juice so it was nice and sticky sweet.

I blew out the flame, cleaned and rebuilt with a little bit less cotton and all was fine. I will admit it did kind of rattle me when I first saw the flame.
