I tried posting this in the ATV forum but apparently I’m not worthy yet…

I am about to build a 5V mod and I’m wondering what atomizer resistance I should pair with it? My current setup is 3.7V with 1.5 LR 306 which by my calculation gives me approximately 9.2 Watts. I like the vapor production and TH but a little more would be even better.

I was thinking that 10 Watts might be a good target (just guessing). That would mean I’d be looking for a 2.5 ohm atomizer if my math’s right.

I guess my main question is how much wattage is too much? I realize it’s a relative thing and the lifespan of the atomizer will decline as the wattage goes up but…what would be a good sweet spot where I can get a great hit and not go through atomizers like water?

Of course, if I’d just get off my .... (or $$) and get a VV, this would not be a dilemma.

Many thanks to all responders…

I find my sweet spot is around 7 watts. Sometimes a little higher or lower depending on the juice but in the general 7 watt area.

10W at 5V would take 2.5ohms which would be a little hot for me but the only way to know is try it.

I would suggest since your starting a build anyway to go vv. Lots of info and tutorials online which make it fairly simple and then you don't have to worry about matching attys or cartos.

That's good advice. I tried building one unsuccessfully. I think I fried my switching regulator using a really crappy soldering iron. Live and learn...

From all of our tests most people like between 7- 9 watts I tend to like around 9 watts when I am out and about and a little lower when at home.

Yeah, I think I'll be in the 8-9 range myself.
