I've had my 510 for 2 weeks now and I love it but I've noticed both my attys getting really hot after 5 min or so of puffing. Is this common? They cool right down but my biggest worry is if I get a passthrough: Will the extra voltage make it too hot? I've heard of them working well but I'm a little curios.

X--sure is common--that is the nature of the beast with the 510. It is a real juice cooker and that is why you get such a good hit off off it.

My advice is after it gets hot, give it at least a 3 minute break or you are destined for disaster....

I've found that the best way to do it is to always carry two complete e-cigs around - when one starts getting warm, I switch to the other. It seems to be the rule that when it starts to get hot, it starts to taste bad, too. My guess is that it's because the atomizer has dried out, and needs a little time to soak up some more juice from the cartridge. That's when your PG really does it's job as coolant for the atomizer. ;)

Let it cool if the atty tube's hot to the touch.

If you really want hot, get yourself a Prodigy with a 510 adapter and take a couple 4 second puffs... 5volts is a bear!

So does that sound right? Is the atty just drying out? I'm not questioning it, just looking for some kind of confirmation.

Not really. The heat is simply caused by usage. If you vape a lot then it will get hotter. If it's real hot and you aren't getting much vapor then the cart is drying out. Stop and top off.

I do like fozzie does. I carry more than one atty and swap it out when it gets too hot. I usually carry a couple of extra attys so that I can change juice flavors during the day. If I use the same flavor too much it starts to lose it's hit. It's not good to mix flavors in the atty. You can end up with a bad taste if you do it too much.

I carry 2 510's and an 801 with me . I rotate. Keeps them from getting hot. I have yet to lose an atty now since starting this practice 2 months ago. I think one of the secrets to atty life must be avoiding overheating them. Plus the flavors stays better. Yes it's a bit of a hassle to keep up with 2 or 3 complete units, but you get used to it. I also have a little travel box with a spare battery for each one. This way I am good for the day. When I get home at night, I cycle the batteries thru the charger to have them ready for tomorrow. Bit of a hassle? Yep. But after kicking a 2 pack a day analog habit, it is worth it, no question.

Keep those attys cool!

Me too, always carry two. Especially since I still go outside to vape at work. Then I can alternate between them for 5 minutes and still get some serious vaping in then go back and rechain myself to my desk.

Each PV has a different flavor cart so I always have 2 diff vapes on me as well. Saves me from getting tired or used to one flavor. I find that after a day or so of vaping one flavor the taste gets dull.

Maybe it's me...but though my 510 gets warm, maybe very warm, I wouldn't categorize it as hot. At least not so much that I get concerned about it. Perhaps I should. And I definitely don't carry two atomizers around. Maybe there's some difference from one to the next? Mine are manual switched...could that have an effect?
