the more vg the faster they clog, the darker the liquid the faster they clog. also if you vape in very short bursts you're probably caking on juice faster than you should. you can't get away from caking on juice eventually though.

too love of voltage on the atomizer probably would cause the same accelerated caking too i would think.

i remember i had some pecan roll juice, black as dirty oil, tasted delicous, but could only vape it for 4 hits in an egoT tank or cartomizer, ended up trading it away to someone who could use it in an atomizer, which i think have less issues with that and get cleaned more often anyway.

Get yourself an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. It works wonderfully to clean that burnt on gunk out of an atty. Also, you need to start cleaning more often, even if it's a good soaking...short dry burn wouldn't hurt either.

You also might try this...

Get a shot glass or small container.

Pack the atomizers with baking soda.

Slowly pour white vinegar onto the baking soda and let it fizz.

Fill container with white vinegar just enough to cover the atty's while laying on their sides.

Let soak 20-30 minutes.

Rinse in hot water.

Add a few drops of lemon juice to each one and let sit for 5 minutes.

Rinse in hot water.

Turn upside down to dry overnight.

Add 3-4 drops of plain VG, let sit 5 mintes, and then vape off without inhaling.

The plain VG will remove any leftover tastes from the vinegar and lemon juice.

It's not just dark liquids that clog attys and cartos - cloudy and opaque and speckled liquids often drop flavoring sediment in cartos and attys. These days I mostly use cartomizers and I only use clear no-sediment juices as my regular juices. Re cartomizers - they still degrade but at least i get to throw the carto out after 7-10 days of use (which is 2-3 weeks for me since I alternate using 2 cartos) and then i can start totally fresh with a nice new coil.

Re 901 atomizers specifically - I found them VERY hard to clean because the coil compartment is almost sealed so it's hard to run water through them or flush out any dissolved stuff if they've been soaked. A carto and atomizer cleaning kit from SmokTek might work a bit better since it can force liquid through.

My other problem with 901 atomizers was the ones I had gave no resistance when fully screwed in and instead the barrel would continue to turn while the threaded end stayed still. After the barrel rotated like that, some kind of plastic or nylon piece could be seen blocking part of the air intake hole on the side and that ruined the drag.
