I had the bright idea of cleaning all of my 510 attys yesterday evening. I used cold tap water as I have in the past, and left them overnight to dry.

...now they all taste awful, almost like sewage, and they aren't vaping right. I have no idea what's going on. I've tried both the dry puffing and the atty flood methods and nothing seems to be working.

Any ideas?

P.S. No, there's nothing wrong with the water in my tap.....

Blow them out really good and give them a soak in some Vodka or if you can get it, some PGA (EverClear pure grain alcohol). When done, blow out, shake like a thermometer until you get all the liquid out (put your other hand in front of the atty as you shake it until you don't feel droplets leaving any more), put about 4-5 drops of your e-liquid on it (to prime). Letting the liquid sit for an hour or so on the bridge to soak into the nickel mesh surrounding the pot in the atty is a good thing if you can wait. My attys seem to vape better when I do that too (less of that new harsh taste). Do keep adding drops to the bridge as you get it to start vaping again, especially if you get a nasty dry taste.

This is the method I usually use to clean though sometimes I'll boil a really bad one in the microwave in a glass bowl with the atty covered by at least 2" of water for 2 min. or so and then do the PGA soak above. The alcohol will displace all water in your atty and helps get rid of bad taste.

Thanks for the pointers Hellen. I just realized this is the first time I've used only water and not h2o and grey goose. Hopefully that will do the trick. Thank god I found some old attys stashed in my office this morning...

I have had similar issues doing that as well. However, I have had much better luck with with my boiling water method. Basically put your atty(s) in a heat safe mug, boil some water (i prefer to use purified or bottled water for this as I have well water on the tap), pour the boiling water over the atty(s) and use a clean spoon or knife to stir it up vigerously changing direction ever few seconds. Dump the water, blow out the att(s) FYI THEY WILL BE HOT!, and then repeat the above steps 1 or 2 more times. Let them sit out to dry in an area away from any sented candles, food items, etc. so they dont absorb any oders as these will be transfered into flavors when you use the atty(s).

Thanks, I'll try using some boiling water too! So is this normal? D'you think there is some funk in my tap water that you can only taste after its been sitting on an atty overnight? Really curious.

i stopped trying to rinse my atties... i found out after leaving a glass of cold tap water out over night , that they use a water softener here , and they are using way to much softener , as the glass of water was a glass of ooze come morning...

makes you wonder just how good that stuff is for your body...

always use alchohol. even the cheapest clear vodka you can get is better than tap water...

yup. try using bottled water if you have to use water. otherwise alcohol is the way to go.... and dry burns will just burn the wick , i dont do it. just rinse , blow through , and let sit with some juice in it overnight to prime. couple drops in the AM and take a puff...

Hmm, I've exclusively used dry burning to clean my 510 and 901s. I find that as long as you have sufficient juice (I drip) you don't get any burnt taste.
