I wish I could agree, but I can't. Articles like this do far more harm than good.

Here we have "health authorities" telling us e-smoking is no better than smoking really. What they want is for all of us to quit. Quit pretending, too. When they look over a park now, they want to see every bench occupied by healthy people not embracing cigarettes! But .. wait .. there's someone there with a white thing in his hand that LOOKS like a cigarette .. and he's puffing on it .. and smoky stuff is coming from his mouth and nose.

The health fanatics that successfully brought us all the present smoking bans are not going to accept that person with the fake cigarette that puffs. You know they won't. They want tobacco use banned and smoking relegated to history. E-smoking looks like smoking to them. And that's enough to raise their anger. You can't reason with anger about this being healthier, etc. They won't even listen.

It's only just starting ....

You can't reason with anger, TB, thats true. But you can inform. You can demand accurate reporting of the subject, demand these health authorities properly modify their statements to show that e-smoking is less harmful to the user and not harmful to secondhand users.

Its an issue I am beginning to feel strongly about, and one that I believe in fighting for. Ignorance cannot be allowed to dictate policy.

When we stop and think about it, we already know the real fear behind e-cigs. The idea that a healthier version of smoking that doe4sn't kill people might become a gateway to the real thing. That a device like this could increase the use of nicotine in the population when so many are working to crush it out.

Smoking has never been popular. Its been publicized as popular, touted as cool in the past. But, for America at least, most folks never liked smokers any more than they liked people who drink. Any more than they liked anyone who used any drug to feel differently. Health concerns can be easily inflated out of proportion to make this "the devil".

Quit executive director Fiona Sharkie said the product was a gimmick that deliberately flouted the spirit of tobacco bans.

"One of the many benefits of a ban on smoking in bars in clubs is that it encourages people to quit smoking or smoke less," she said.

Absolute crap. The bans were put in place to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke. Well boys, looks like we may have to start organizing in order to keep our e-cigs.

a large chunk of the general public are like sheep-they base their opinions on the information fed to them by the shepherds-the media and politicians.if the media and politicians want ecigs banned, then the public will blindly follow suit.the powers that be wont let informed opinion get in the way!twas ever thus...
Did you know Obama's wife only agreed to him running for President if he gave up cigarettes. He now admits to being addicted to the chewing gum.
Anyone see possibilities here if he wins!

JANTY IF YOU'RE READING YOU SHOULD SEND OBAMA A WONDERFUL SELECTION OF YOUR ECIGS, ETC!
Better yet, get a personal visit with him and give him a live demonstration along with the Kissbox.
But hurry up before he wins the Presidency cause he'll be too busy and even more unapproachable.
I bet he'd really appreciate the relief in stress.

Don't jinx him, Cindy! If he's elected, at least we'll have a President who understands the addictive nature of nicotine. But there was a post on our local TV station's blog (when they tested e-cigarettes) and the poster was vitriolic in saying he'd never vote for Obama because the man had been a cigarette smoker and that indicated how weak a man he was, etc. Talk about spewing hatred for smokers. This almost topped it all (forget FDR, John Kennedy (cigars), Gerald Ford (a pipe), Ronald Reagan in younger years smoking and advertising Chesterfields plus a pipe, and Bill Clinton (cigars)). Anybody who smoked was feeble-brained, this guy concluded. So understand what any connection to smoking, e or not, would mean.

I still think, however, that Ruyan should send a box of its classy disposable cigars to the good governor of California, a cigar smoker who leaves the governor's mansion to smoke in a tent on the lawn. Let him puff on an e-cigar in public. Now THAT would advance our cause.

Hey TB, I respect you. But I think you dont give people enough credit for thinking for themselves. Yes, there are and will always be a segment of the population that thinks if "it" is on TV or in print, "it" must be true. But those types are fewer and farther between every year. Most folk understand that such naivety is dangerous.
You can see the shift in attitude especially in the consumer segment and in health care. People are taking responsibility for themselves as they have learned, the hard way, that taking opinion as fact has led to bevy of problems and dissatisfaction.

I don't doubt that anything that smacks of smoking will be a harder sell with the general public, but most are not as willing to ditch ideas just because "so and so" said so either.

Quirk, sorry but i have to agree with TB.

How many times have you seen a new Michael Moore movie come out and then mobs of people are preaching his gospel without any research of their own? I think the the number of independent thinkers decreases every year. Why should we have to think if our government does it for us?

Sad to say, but i think they will be banned or regulated at some point. Fear makes things happen fast. Look at the last 8 years.

I live in Australia. I believe the way this bad publicity is motivated by the lack of understanding and awareness. Unfortunately Australia has been missed when it comes to regions of the world that have E-smoking and E-smoking awareness.

As I have presented E-smoking to many people I generally know, I have realised that not one person I have ever met here has any clue on what E-smoking is. So expect more skeptisism from the Aussies.
