Australia could become the first major nation to outlaw smoking, with a federal government-funded trial about to test the viability of electronic cigarettes as a safer, permanent replacement for tobacco.

It wouldn't surprise me. Everything requiring personal responsibility, i.e. "dangerous" is banned/regulated to hell and back in Australia. It's really pretty damned sad how much The State Down Under has subjugated its "citizens" in recent years.

Whare as it looks more like they are going to ban ecigs not real cigs.

Independent tests of the untested claims made about e-cigarettes will provide governments with the essential research evidence needed to make decisions about whether and under what conditions they should be available.

Knew it was too good to be true, still the idea is now out their, this 'news' got huge coverage and the idea that ecigs are better than cigs is planted.

This, now we get to watch and see if the retractions are buried on pg 19 section B one week later or if BP can get them on the front page tomorrow.
