OK, still doing the research and can't find the answer...I understand with an auto, I just inhale and it activates and has an auto shut off...my question is about the manual batts(which seem to be favored) and the 501/eGo systems...I push the button 5 times to turn it on...puff/puff and push the button 5 times to turn it off...then 5 times on...puff puff...5times off...5time on, puffpuff, 5time off...ad nauseum(seems like a lot of button pushing) until I finish a session or do I turn it on, puff for 5-7 min and then turn it off...HELP an ignorant newb...PLEASE...................

No.

Only the Ego-T has the 5 button enable disable and it has nothing to do with vaping.

To vape you press the button in 1-2 seconds before you start dragging (so there is already nice vapor made before you start your drag), then start your drag, then let up the button as you finish your drag, then inhale (that is ONE PRESS)

If you HAVE and EGo-T and you choose to disable the battery, then yes it is 5 presses to disable it and 5 to enable it.

The benefit of manuals

It is much harder to damage or kill a manual battery with a juice leak. Some manuals like 510 are totally sealed on the threaded end and extremely safe from any damage from juices leaks. Autos are totally dependent on a little drag sensor right inside the hole in their threaded end. Get that sticky with juice or short it out and the battery is usually ruined. And cartomizers, the most popular way to vape - when they leak a bit they will do it right over the threaded end hole of a battery. And dripping on an atomizer with a drip tip (a great way to test juices) is not recommended on auto batteries.

Also - manuals make it easier to get a good hit. And they can't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration.

Most slim manuals I have used have stiff enough buttons that they are unlikely to be pressed on in your pocket when you are doing normal activities. The big battery models ofter have bigger buttons that may press easier. If you want a slim ecig and are super concerned about a manual turning on in your pocket, check out Smokeless Image Volt manual (KR808D-1) - their button is tiny and partly recessed.

I have a higher voltage/ohm clone (KGO). There's no 5x press. I press the button for 4 to 5 seconds before vaping. It heightens the experience with a nice, warm vape. I control the length of my vape not the battery. Add a low resistance atomizer or cartomizer to get a mod-like experience. The kits are $45. You can't achieve that experience with an auto. Hope that helps.

Ummm...no. 5 clicks to turn on. THEN push the button, hold it down, and draw. When you're done using it for awhile, 5 clicks to turn off. Hope this helps you. The 5 click feature makes it pocket friendly so you don't have to worry about it going off. I might be wrong but I think only the eGoT batteries are the only ones that have this feature. Regular eGo batteries don't the last I checked.

...thank you all for the advice(especially dormouse)...just SO MUCH info to sort out...as of now, I am planning to get a 510T for my wife and an eGoT for myself...we presently smoke Marlboro Lights and I was thinking to get a USA blend with 18/24%(?) nic to start with...after getting over the learning curve, we'll try other flavors/strengths of juice and the various upgrades for our starter kits...does that sound like a viable plane for folks just starting out in wonderful world of vapeing...............

I'd think 12mg/18mg Nic would be better for a Lights smoker...higher nic is usually more throat hit for me which reminds me more of the reds.
