Avatar issue

I've been trying to add an avatar but get the message "remote file too large". I'm using Flickr and my image size is 148 X 150, which falls into the guidelines. I even reduced the size to 50 X 50, and it was still too large. What gives?

One more thing. Is there any way, without messing things up, to change my username to mn shutterbug? The extra er was a typo when I signed up.

It's possible the file size is too large. You may want to check that.

Is there a way to disconnect my avatar from my Facebook profile pic?
As you can probably see by my avatar I am a high profile celebrity and would prefer to keep it private.
If I load another image it shows up on my profile page but my Facebook image shows up next to any post.
