Thanks for the write-ups guys. I think my Ba Gua has the spring, rather than the magnets. I do get the occasional misfire, but I've gotten used to pulling it to the side with my pinky in order to get consistent firing. I would absolutely love it, however, if I could get rid of the wobble and have it fire consistently no matter where I press - all while not being too stiff. Seems you have achieved this, Matty. I haven't opened mine up yet, but I'm assuming I should be able to go to magnets, like yours, if mine is a spring, yah?

With the MG Chemicals Silver Conductive Epoxy and CircuitWiter Conductive Pen (respective resistances: 0.38ohm-cm and <0.020 ohm/sq/mil) I ended up using I don't think you'll be into one for less than 40 bucks.

I was somewhat displeased with the resistance of the epoxy so I went with the conductive pen (which conductivity is quite good) on flush mating surfaces.

I mean I did not pay retail for my materials other than brass washers and mags but out of the bag of 20 washer I bought about half of the ID's where undersized.

I'm interested to hear aalwani's impression because I have not ran a spring or brass cup in mine; but it should be another week before I would even expect it to arrive.

I guess if there is enough interest I could make up a small batch of ~10, but no promises.

Yeah still waiting for the stuff to arrive. I did not get what you mean by the epoxy or pen used. Did you pay 40$ for gluing the magnet to the washer? Hope they arrive here safe and sound.

Mozzer the problem is i am .... with voltages on all my mods lol. I vape with the voltmeter for like 1 hour the first time i buy a mod to test it :)

heh heh.. I know how you feel. It's very good of you to share the experience you gain from being so thorough. :) I've only done a little voltage testing with my Ba Gua, and it's not actually that impressive by the numbers. I'm getting around 0.4-0.5v drops under load. However, since I know I have to pull the button to the side, I'll bet my readings are lower than I actually get when using the mod. When I use my multimeter I have the mod standing on the switch, hold the leads in place, and just press down to get it to fire. So that's not optimal for this spring switch.

Anyway, I am able to get it to hit very nicely with my pinky pulling a bit. Seems kind of lame to have to do that with such a gorgeous, and otherwise brilliantly made device, but I've got the feel for it, and it's not a big deal. Of course, I'd rather it was perfect...

Brilliantly made is a little much. Doesn't take much brilliance to match the diameters of the axis and housing. That, and the fact that the positive pin should have been reverse threaded. Every time I screw down a tank, it threads the positive pin further down.

I'll take your point regarding the screw. It does make it a bit fiddley.

Essentially yes, it would easily cost over 40.

But no, I already had the silver epoxy from an unrelated project and I'm out of pocket less than 10 USD for the pen.

I think total I'm into it for ~ 30, who's .... now aalwani :)

But on an unrelated note I used the remainder of the mags to mod the switch in my Mortar and two of my good friend's Pipebombs, both of which where having missfiring issues. I know, not the highest end mods, but as soon as I Noalox'd the threads and got the spring out of there, wuuuuuuh, they hit so much harder.

1.30 USD

It only came out to .4 oz, that's like 11 or 12 grams; but I shipped it 'hand canceled' so it wouldn't get hung up in any automated or sorting processes.

I don't really know how long it should take but from what I've read, about two weeks. Possibly arriving on the 12th -14th(?).

I'm having a hard time breaking the screw loose in the button. I can see why I have to pull mine to the side a bit to get it to fire: It's perfectly flush with the insulator ring, so it doesn't protrude unless it's at an angle.

Any tips for loosening the screw?

It shouldn't be this way. At stock the screw sticks put about 0.5mm at least. But anyway you should be able to unscrew it with a screwdriver. Just hold the head of the button with something rubber

Got it loose, thanks. Used some pliers with padding to hold the end cap. Found the problem, too. There was debri on the magnet, about 0.5mm worth! wow.. the button seems far more worthy of a Ba Gua now. Works perfectly. Damn.. can't believe I waited so long to open the button. Guess I figured there was no point until I was ready to modify it.

Edit: I thought I had a spring version because it felt a little wobbly. Turns out it's the standard magnets, and, once I remove the metallic debris, it's far less sloppy.

Now that I've had some time using the button - after cleaning it up, I still find it difficult to fire consistently. I have to press it very evenly and all the way to get full conductivity. Any angle causes a misfire. It's surprisingly hard to press it correctly with my pinky. Not sure what might solve this. It's not too stiff. Maybe there's just too much clearance in the bore, and maybe 0.5mm of protruding screw is not enough.

I may make up a small batch of the mag/washers. I do need more magnets though, and the washers need to be deburred a polished a bit. I posted so that others might try the modification or something similar but I can see where the silver epoxy might be a sticking point (no pun intended). I would like a little bit of feedback tho, before I order more mags.

OK, I had too many variables going. Went through and cleaned all contacts, adjusted everything - particularly the button screw. I had left it barely finger tight in hopes of making it protrude a little more, which actually caused some problems. I tightened it snugly. Finally, by the end of my troubleshooting I had a very weak battery LOL

It's back to working very well, with no special technique for the button press :)

LOL.

Glad you got it working again.
