I'm just wondering what it means..when an infant always smiles at people and then hides his face in moms/dads chest, or the carpet or a stuff animal(whatever is close)

I think so, their liitle emotions are so new and fresh that I believe they get overwhelmed.
When my son was a wee lad, he'd be in the grocery cart and saying hi to everyone. As soon as they would say hi back, he'd duck his head like he was shy.................beat me why he'd ask for the attention then shy away. He's 21 now and talks to EVERYONE and doesn't act shy....LOL. Small ones are such amazing little creatures and are SO much fun to watch their personalities develop.
My son will flirt with folks...coo at them, smile real big, hide his face...repeat as long as they will continue talking to him.
Maybe he is trying to play peek a boo..or as my grandson called it at 1..peek boo boo!
more then likely it just a bit of bravado followed by a fit of shy! The shy will fade.
My favorite thing to do once the baby has stated prattling is to talk to them like we are having a real conversation..they answer with babytalk and I keep going. Sometimes they get excited and shout at me..maybe saying "you weird lady I already explained all that!"

Payton was a HUGE flirt! By 5 months, she was blowing kisses to her Godfather and she would babble away to any GOOD LOOKING guys! Brian's gonna have to kill some poor boy one day...sigh.. 
I opened one, but then got a 'warning' PM from one of our lovely ladies here on ECF. In which, she pointed out to me that anyone I had had dealings with here on ECF, in the forms of trades, etc., would have our home address. Good point. I took down my pics of Payton and re-named the thread 'never mind!'
It really sucks that we live in the world we do, but we have to face facts I suppose...

Maybe I am not the brightest, but how would someone get your addy from pictures?
Not from the pictures, from whatever trade transaction you may have had with them. (Like if you bought something from a member in classifieds, so of course you sent your real name and address to get the item.)

I suppose even just talking about kids put them at risk then really, I mean IF we where dealing with someone who would go that far....pic or not them having an address and knowing you have an 8 year old g/b ect might do it.

I guess I just never thought about it, when my 6 kiddos were growing up, the internet was not at all like it is now.
Mine are all over the age of 19, heck my oldest will be 30, so I am no longer in that protective mode like I use to be.
But now that I have thought about it, I sooo understand!!!!
