bad attitudes from drunk girls while vaping at my venue/bar/nightclub.

i hold a few jobs, one of which i work at an establishment that serves as a venue/bar/nightclub. on fridays we have this dj house/dance/dubstep event that's held every week, which draws a very variable crowd. we are a private venue, so all attendees are required to have a membership which is mandatory for entry. during this event i'm usually stationed on membership duty, and sell them to patrons outside.
i had both clipboards out while people filled out their forms, and i had handed the kids their change. it was pretty busy, so i snuck a couple of puffs from my pv. i usualy turn away from the people around me when i exhale, but beyond that i can't control where the vapor wafts. a bit of one exhale crept towards this girl and her friend, and one of the girls proceeds to give me attitude.
she tells me it's unacceptable, she doesn't smoke, and doesn't appreciate being exposed to it, especially by someone who is working there.
i kind of apologized (although by this point in the night i'm really apathetic to the myriad of people who have fed me drunken entitled attitude), and explained that the "smoke" was equivalent to steam and it wasn't my intention that it went in her general direction. she continued to beak off at me until she had her membership. she then proceeds to dub us as "the worst bar ever" because we were also at capacity at this point of the night, and she had to wait outside. she also complained to the bouncer manning the entryway, as if he yknow, cared or something.
i dunno. people smoke outside the venue, especially at capacity. a lot of the time they're not exclusively smoking cigarettes and this crowd has one of the highest occurrences of drug use. i really hate this event, it draws on average the worst crowd for a regularly scheduled event at our venue. people don't even know where they are (the event is called klub omfg, so our actual venue name is ambiguous to them), they're a very young entitled crowd, and complaints are rampant. they complain about our memberships (so that we can remain a private venue and have all 3 rooms in our establishment liscenced), there are too many drugs, they all hop in line to the afterhours club next door after last call, they can't handle their substance, fights happen way too often, there is theft of liquor, and they complain when they're denied entry for excessive intoxication or public drinking. it's ridiculous. even with all that i've never had anyone be upset at me for using my pv and accidentally making it into a little bit of my secondhand vapor. i guess that was my first explicitly negative experience with vaping in public.

also, i've been honing my stealth skills while working! the next day i was placed at door, and we're not exactly entitled to breaks during shift. up the ego went up my sleeve, out the vapor trickled slowly out of my nose. the head of security caught me smiling like a cat with a bird in its mouth, while vapor slowly escaped from my nostrils. he just laughed.
we allow the use of pvs inside our establishment, but i'm a little dicey on how allowed i am to vape while working door. either way, working a 6 hr shift without having to beg someone to relieve me for a break was pretty refreshing.

omfg is the name of the event and seems to sum up our thoughts on most nights. i think it's a 'least favorite' kind of night for most working. if you were referring to the behavior of our patrons, we deal with all abuses of staff and the law in the same way: .....
if you were referring to my vaping habit: my manager was the one to give me the go-ahead to vape inside anyways. when working coat check one of my other managers spotted my pv in plain sight and said nothing.
they both are aware i'm vaping pretty regularly outside, and none of my managers nor my owner has said anything about it. they're pretty busy all night so i find the idea of anyone trying to get a hold of any 3 of them in order to complain about the girl vaping outside pretty humorous. they really do have bigger and better things to worry about.

now that i've thought about it a little more, i'm the only girl who has been scheduled for steady membership shifts for this event who hasn't quit yet, or who hasn't threatened to quit, or hasn't demanded to very rarely work during this event. so my bosses are probably just happier i show up and don't seem grumpy while actually at work.

If the girls were drunk and giving attitude, it sounds like they would've given attitude no matter what you did. I say don't sweat it. Let 'em whine -- if it hadn't been about your vaping, it probably would've been about waiting outside, or about how many people there are, etcetera. You're doing the best that you can to contain it and to stealth it, and frankly, I think that's all you really need to do. :)

ya most definitely we hear a lot of complaints about a lot of stupid crap.
"they kicked me out and i was only fightiiiiiing."
"i don't want a membership i want to go party." "you need one to go in." "let's go to (trashy congested awful bar) instead!" "ya, do that."
like i said, it was my first negative experience public vaping outside and thought it warranted a share.
:)
i don't stealth outside, though.

If I had been in your shoes, they wouldn't have gotten a membership. I'd have told them "We're packed full, and you're being a jerk even before you get a membership", and then I'd have moved on to the next customer.

Regardless, if your boss approves, all they can do is whine.

+1 to this.

One of the best clubs I've ever been to was membership-only. World Headquarters in Newcastle, UK. And the policy was clear - you come here to have a good time with a good attitude. No good attitude? Go somewhere else. Don't know if you had full control over whether to allow entry or membership to these girls - but at the club I mentioned that kind of behaviour would have meant you don't get in.

i can only deny entry if i think they're going to be disruptive to the environment once inside, if i suspect them of illegal activities or see them outright, or if they're being abusive.
it's kind of lame, but i'm not exactly a bouncer either. despite the fact there are enough opportunities for me temporarily take on that role when needed.
but our venue is totally worth the $5/per year membership. it's a historical site and the sound is one of the best our city has to offer. in my opinion, it's the best venue in the city. it's super intimate, we book a lot of varied artists, and the staff are awesome.
i just wish the electronic music scene is the way it was a few years ago too.
