Bad Charger or Bad Batteries?

Well, I bought some DSE801 batteries about a week ago. First time I used them, they really heated up the atty - had to refill the cart often to get rid of burnt taste (atty is still fine). Well, now both batts are charging only up to "yellow" on the charger indicator, not green, and every time I try to take a hit I get the dreaded 5 blinks, which tells me the batteries aren't charged. Should I get a new charger or new batts?

P.S. The charger was bought from a different supplier than the batts, but I'm sure it has the same specs as a typical 801 charger.

Kinda hard to tell from here.:D
If you have a meter you might be able to tell.

Going on odds alone it's more likely 1 charger failed than two batteries failing at the same time. This is assuming the charger hasn't damaged the batteries.

I think I would get an 801 charger.

On rereading it looks like you already have a 801 charger.

I'm a bit lost... You ordered 801 batts to be used on a charger you had?

Correct. My old 801 batts died after about a month on the old charger. So I bought 2 new ones from another supplier and as I said before, they worked ok for a few days and now they won't take a charge. You think it's the new batteries that are bad and not the charger?

That is what I am thinking.. You know the charger was working before, and for it to stop at the same time you got new batts, that you don't know work, seems less likely and a real coincidence.

I know there are different makers of the 801/penstyle like the 302. Could it be you have a different atty with a clone batty that is causing a short, which would be the cause of the atty getting hot and the charger not working?

Maybe take a real close look at the threaded end contact of your new batts vrs your old ones...

Unfortunately i've seen it go both ways (at least on a 510 and 302) I used to blame the batts, but after a few bad chargers were returned from customers, I've found chargers that blew up batts and bad batts blamed on good chargers.

A voltage meter would be the best test.

Both the new atomisers and batts I bought were made by SLB (Sailebao), and I am using them together so I doubt any incompatability between those is the problem.

A charger going bad seems odd to me, too. The fact that your two month old batteries failed and now two new ones failed makes me suspicious that there is something to blame other than defective batteries, though. I think I'd try another charger to eliminate that variable. They're cheap and having a second one is handy.

If you get new batteries, you might also want to try a new atomizer. I had a 901 atty that apparently shorted and killed 4 batteries before I got the hint. They ended up stone dead, though, no lights, no nothing, so it sounds a little different than your situation.

Why didn't it fry the old batteries then? You said they were both stamped SLB right? Are there 2 generations of batteries, requiring 2 generations of chargers?

But you might be on to something. I was going to say 4.2 vs 4.7 who cares, but I looked at my 401 USB charger, and it reduces 5 volts from the USB to 4.2 volts. Seems like a small drop to go through all that effort to do, but I guess there is a reason.

thinking out loud, all the lithum cells are going to be 3.7 volt be design. So they came out with a 4.7 charger to reduce charge time. 4.7 chargers were reducing battery life, so they came out with the 4.2 charger and 4.2 batts with interal protection that would not allow them to charge on 4.7. If that is correct your "blown" batteries should charge on the 4.2 as they weren't blown at all, they just we not allowed to charge at 4.7...

Let us know how it all turns out with the new charger. This is good stuff to know, as the Chineese a famous for changing their products without give any indication that it is a new design :(
