Bad news with the starter kit - but a happy ending!

So, here I am - 40+ years a 30-a-day smoker and, as a regular train and air traveller, it was the 'leper-colony' attitude to smokers that caused me to start looking at e-cigs - that and a bunch of people outside Kings Cross station pushing e-Lites for a couple of months. Never had the time to try them, but cudos for making me aware of the existence of such a technology.

Anyway, I bounced around the web and this forum and decided to give it a shot. As 'liloldlady' says so eloquently I need the nicotine - I don't need all the other nasty stuff (still working through her blog - AWESOME!). Thursday I ordered a Tornado Tank starter kit, plus a small bottle of 18mg e-liquid. Friday it arrived and I started vaping. First go was good, but I could only get one good hit an hour :(( I'm sucking like a vampire on the darn thing and the more I suck the less vapor I get!! Not helped by the instructional video on the seller's site where the guy blowing smoke rings says 'suck for 5 seconds'. If I change atomizers I get another decent vapor - once. I'm using a prefill supplied with the starter kit, so I change to another one. Same thing. As a complete newbie I don't know how close to my analog experience the ecig should be and by Saturday morning I'm beginning to become a bit dispirited - I can see the benefits but I don't seem to be easily experiencing them.

Then, I decide to fill one of the included refillable tanks from the e-liquid I bought - OMG!!! - INCREDIBLE!!! Forget the muppet on the video with his 5 second puff, I sip lightly on the mouthpiece EXACTLY like my old Superkings and it JUST WORKS! I'm convinced that e-cigs in general and the Tornado Tank in particular are going to work for me. I've got a carton and a half of (duty free) cigs left so I feel I've got to use them up - but had one after each meal today just for the sake of it. From 30-a-day to 3?? - YES!! In every other respect the e-cig has taken over. VERY happy - as is my better half because I'm not stinking the house out and I may not die of lung cancer (prioritise her views any way you like! ;))

A question to any 'old hands' happening upon this post - why don't the prefills shipped work? Thanks for any answers. Pleased to be a new member of the community ;)

I don't have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to say hooray and congratulations to you! The tank system didn't work for me, it was too weak. They do make low resistance atomizers for them now though and I may give one of those a shot sometime. I personally prefer Boge brand LR cartomizers.

One thing I'd like to point out, it might be a satisfying 'throat hit' for you now, but you adjust to vaping just like you adjusted to smoking, and after time your stock setup might not give you the sensation you crave, if that happens there are all kinds of things you can do. Just come here to ECF and let us know! :) Happy vaping and welcome!

Thanks Clinton - from what I'm reading the Tornado Tank is a pretty latest generation and effective low-maintenance solution and (after intitial bad experience) its working for me - time will tell ;) As for being weak - once I got the tank working the muppet advice to inhale for 5 seconds blew my head off!!

Thanks also, Clutter, I'll check out the UK All about e-cigarettes - Home forum.

Cheers

Bob

Just in case enayone has a similar problem, I mailed the supplier who said make sure the tank is FULLY clicked in.

I looked again and the tank was definitely all the way in, but a close examination of it showed a TINY pin-..... of a hole - I turned it through 180 degrees and then gave a real good shove - voila!!

It seems that there's one position in which it doesn't fully puncture the tank - and I found it ;)

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say pre-fills. I've never seen an eGo-T (eGo-T=Tornado-T=Inferno-T=Jaunty Jet) ship with any kind of prefill. The atomizer do come with empty mega carts as dust covers. Is it possible you tried to vape one of those?

Here in the UK TECC ship a starter kit which contains 5 pre-fill carts (1 x low, 2 x med, 2 x high). I also just checked a US supplier (Joye eGo-T electronic cigarette that drips e-Liquid directly into the atty.) and there too pre-fills are shipped.

Anyway they're working now - and I'm not planning to use pre-fills in the future anyway.

Welcome! We all have little things that set us back when learning to vape. Mine was learning to clean and refill cartomizers right and proper. You were very wise to choose a great kit for your first go with vaping. It is very versatile as well as it is basically a 510 system. Many of us start out with those e-Lite type things and are not as satisfying as what you have already.

Happy Vaping!

One final update after a week with the 'tank'. I have to pinch myself that the change to e-cigs has been so smooth (leaving aside that first bit of learning curve). I am ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with my purchase. I've tried a few e-liquid samplers and now have a big batch of TW 18mg which appears to suit me just fine. Each shipment from the UK distributor has arrived next day. I can already feel the crap in my lungs from 40 years of smoking reducing. I don't smell, the house doesn't, the car doesn't, and the financial's rock!! The device works perfectly, with excellent battery life and trouble-free vaping.

I would unreservedly recommend e-cigs in general and the Tornado Tank (ego-T) in particular to any smoker. Happy days!! :))
