Hey guys. I've been vaping for about a year, I got into dripping like 6 months ago. I started out with a stillare (clone) and I love it but I wanted to try a different tank so I ordered the tobeco clone plume veil for $20. The first weird thing to happen is one of the legs on my coil snapping as I was screwing it down. Never happened on my stillare before. I ended up making two 16 wrap coils using 28 gauge kanthal that clocked in at 1 ohm. I notice they take a bit longer to glow than I'm use to and whenever I hit the button when I have wick and juice on it it takes a while to get vapor out of it. The vapor production is pretty low. When I got home last night I took my screwdriver and tightened the screws (they were loose, another problem I've never had with my stillare) then I pushed the button and one of the coils wasn't even burning. I guess the leg snapped when I tightened it. Do I a bad tank?

That is A LOT of wire. With so much area it will take forever to heat up and forever to cool down. Use less wire. You have enough wire in that build to build 4 I ohm coils.

If you drop down to 30ga you will only need 8 wraps at 2mm. Or better yet go single coil 28g and you only need 6 wraps at 2mm. If you want to go duel coils you should really be dropping that resistance build.

Copper has a higher thermal conductivity and a higher thermal expansivity than steel.

A brass rda would show the symptoms you mention compared to a steel rda.

The metal posts that the coil goes to can act as a heat sink; the whole deck acts as a heat sink for the negative side of the coil;

I'm such an idiot and I know I look like newb. I guess I was trying to take advantage of the extra positive post and make a long coil. I didn't realize it would take so long to heat up (I've never made a coil that big) I recoiled it with 8 wraps at .54 ohms and it'd hitting like a champ. You gotta be careful with the post screws though man, I've never had a problem with my wire snapping like that. Thanks guys!

The plume veil has post holes doesn't it? You should be able to stick the wire through the post hole (might want to double it) and screw it down.

What do you mean, through the top of the post holes? I stick the wire through the side hokes where you're suppose to and I screw it down that way.

Pull the screws and lightly sand with an emory board like the one ladies use for their nails. The screws on the clones have burrs on the ends, and it's probably cutting your wire as you tighten the screw.

I have a Tobeco Plume Veil as well and hate the thing. Negative leg vent holes don't line up unless you push the deck 1.5mm into the barrel. This is one that will be passed off to a friend in need eventually. Also, the thing is a leak monster...I spent more time wiping the mod down with wasted juice than I did actually vaping on it. i don't like the shoulderless deck design at all, meaning that the barrel has nothing to sit on other than the mod itself. The deck also has a shallow juice well. With as much vapor as this thing produces, and how much juice it uses in dual coil mode, a deeper juice well should have been considered. Piss poor design...

I'd comment on the coil you built, but it's already been explained above.
