The bad. Heading out to a work function, throw a spare battery in an empty pocket to put in a battery case when I got to my car, forgot the battery case. Standing outside at the work event, hear abut a 4 second hiss come from my pocket. Pull out my Provari, when it seems fine. Then I see the billowing smoke coming out of my pocket, my spare battery I had forgotten about went into thermal meltdown. Luckily, I was able to flip my pocket nside out and get it out without suffering injurites, although I charred my pants pocket pretty good.

The sad. After getting the heck scared out of me, I drank a little more than I should, caught a ride home, and realized when I got there my Provari was missing. Called the place I had been the next day, they did not have it

The good ending. Was surviving with my backup (Provape 1), trying t determine if I could afford to replace the greatest device I've used, or if I was going to be so careless (I've only had my mini for 3 months) I'd be better with something less expensive, like a MVP 2 (I used an MVP before the Provari, and really liked it, but the USB charger snapped off), but got a phone call last night, they found my Provari. Picking it up later today!

Lessons learned. Battery safety is paramount. A cheaper out and about device might not be a bad idea, losing a Provari is heartwrenching!

Glad you're ok but I must say I sincerely hope this isn't a new trend we're looking at.

Before getting a ProVari I never heard of a battery going thermal nuclear; now within about a weeks time, your situation and the guy who had his battery in his backpack and both of you with ProVaris.

Before anyone raises their pitchforks, I am NOT saying this is in any way related to the ProVari
(I know how so many like to read what they want to read).....

So glad this ended well! Most of all I'm glad you didn't suffer any injuries & your Provari is making its way home safe & sound. If it hadn't been for a friend on here urging me to do my battery research I never would've known about the danger. I bought a bunch of battery cases from eBay. I think it was like 5 bucks for 10 of the ones that hold 2 batts each. I keep 2 with me. One for charged & one marked with a D for those that go dead when I'm out & about.

And not to be a bad influence but...nothing backs up a Provari better than a Provari :D

Not sure exactly what kind of mods you're using but this should help. Couldn't find Baditudes blog but this is a shorter blog that explains some of it. There's much more info available all over the forum if you want to dig deeper. But batteries should always be stored in a plastic case when they're not being charged. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the link Chimney. I just read it & boy am I glad I did. I have a ton of Pannies in plastic cases, however there are approx 20 in each case - NOT GOOD & that's going to be changed immediately. I do all my charging in a Lipo bag & everytime I suggest it to a noob I get my .... chewed out by others, that doesn't bother me much as I feel if just 1 person was helped, well then all is good.

I'd still like to know what the cause was.

It was in a pocket by itself when I left, but after forgetting to put it in a case, I dropped my keys and the mini in that pocket, forgetting the battery was there. Idiot, I am lucky I didn't get burnt.

Co-workers have been ribbing me a ton since then :)

Here ya go ^

I read the above link and it stated to not store multiple batteries in the same case....I bought the battery cases from provape which says it will hold more than 1 as it will hold 1-3, is this really unsafe?? Od do I position them with the pos and neg ends in a certain fashion as they do touch, please advise!!
