Hey, I've been wondering if anyone has had a weird taste coming from both FLUVAL and 100% POLY BATTING. I've tried both now, I can't really describe the taste, other than uh..."Synthetic" or "Plastic-y". It tastes fine for about 10 drags or so, wicks fine, works fine, but the taste after...not fine.

Am I missing something here? I can tell you that I've given up on Fluval after it permanently flavored one of my atomizers like that. Just picked up the batting yesterday to try and I got the same thing. I'm starting to doubt that this is what's actually originally in the cartridges when they come from the factory, i can reuse my factory cartridges for a long time, and it NEVER picks up that horrible flavor.

Can Someone give some insight to this problem?

Out of curiosity, is it a sort of tangy-like flavor? Because I seem to get that if I overstuff with the fluval foam pads.

Thanks for all the answers guys. Perhaps the filling is too dense. I did soak the atomizers in alcohol for a day and it got rid of most of the taste in them, then used them for about an hour and it goes away.

When I first started I thought that the tip of the element actually made contact with the filler, but I was wrong. I'll try loosely packing them with about of 1/16" "headspace" below the cart lip and see how it goes. I wish I had a definate size of the little squares I should be cutting out of the material, but I have an "oddball" setup. I'm using the electroniccigarettesales.com "ULTIMO" and there is literally NO information for them. It seems like everything is proprietary for that model which I have had to deal with in making mods.

I'm now probably going to check out the tea-bag solution to see how that works out.

IF ANYONE HAS AN ULTIMO and has the specs for it (thread pitch, any compatable carts and atomizers etc.) PLEASE let me know.

I don't have an ultimo but the same theory applies with my 801 ---

I took the brand new filling out of a blank cart and unrolled/straightened it out as best as I could. I use that as a template to make new ones. The batting that I am using is not quite as thick as original stuff.

In my case, 1 3/8" square, folded accordian style stuffs right in there at just the right density. Use the straw mod and re-use the cart for about 3 days.

If that's an Ultimo SuperSmoker you have there, .308, then I guess the best advice would be: buy another one... Sorry for that; but SuperSmokers, which started out in the netherlands so well-known there, are best binned... Ultimo is very slightly better then their first cig, but that doesn't mean much seeing their first one mostly didn't last past a few hours to days for most users. If you can't afford another one, then at the very least stop immediately with using their carts (the liquid in them) - that is notorious for clogging your atomizer in the worst possible way (totally uncleanable).
There was a review of the Ultimo on a dutch forum a while ago... overall outcome: looks nice, vapes real crappy

So I really hope for you that the name (Ultimo) is the same, but the brand is different, not from SuperSmoker...

No, it's a new one made by "Kick" ie: Kick e-juices and such. It works great I have to say, I'm still using the original atomizer like new after 2 months continuous use. I use Liquidxpress juice in it though. I'll try unrolling a new cart after vaping it and see what the size is though, good idea.

I don't use the Fluval foam pads. I use Fluval 2 Plus Polyester filter pads. The material is exaclty like the material that was in my Intellicig Evo carts.

Someone did a video on restuffing with Fluval "water polishing pads" which seemed to be a fluffier version than what I use.

Since using Fluval I have not had any problems with burning taste / smell.

I watched the video and tried the poly last week - with less and less quantity of stuffing - and still thought it tasted crappy. I dunno ... it could be a personal thing (I didn't like the taste of teabags or coffee filters either), or it could have been the type of poly I had. I posted this on another thread too: it had that "silky" feel that someone else had posted about, and I wondered if they might use some kind of coating on some types to make it softer.

If you take a butane lighter (so as not to mask the smell) to a wad of polyester and light it on fire, you might decide to re-wash stuffing until it's on its last legs, buy new cartridges in bulk, or stick to natural wool or cotton. That's what I've decided to do (wool). Not only does it smell bad and fizzle black smoke as it melts, but then it hardens in a hurry into a rock-hard, shiny chunk. I know that a lot of people are using it, but personally, I'm thinking that I don't want to suck that into my lungs.

I've tried all different shapes sizes and densities of both fluval and poly-fil. I've definately narrowed it down to the cartridge material that makes it taste like that. I am not convinced AT ALL that poly-fil and fluval is the same material used in factory cartridges. I can refill the factory carts for WEEKS without picking up any change in flavor, fluval/poly-fil = 1-2 days max. You guys might think I'm crazy, but it is what it is.

I find cleaning cartridges and replacing batting helps a lot too. Flavor seems to get worse after filling a cart a couple of times, but gets better after cleaning it. Cleaning the atty definitely helps.

Newbie here... How do you clean carts? I've only had my 510 for two days but I was unaware that you couldn't just keep topping off. Also how long does it take them to dry?

Thanks
