I have started learning to at least clean my coils and dry burn them. I have been using white cotton yarn to put in a new flavor wick. But is seems like no matter what I do none of my flavors taste right. At least not to me. My wife has been using the coils I clean and put flavor wicks and she seems fine with it. It seems like a chemical taste to me or something. Is it just me or am I doing something wrong?

Might be the yarn you're using. There are some yarns, I can't recall the brand because I don't use them) that are organic and free of chemicals, while others require boiling a few times to eliminate any "odd" tastes. Try boiling and rinsing - two or three times - and allowing to air dry, and see how it goes.

If none of that works, there are organic and sterile cotton balls, organic cotton make-up pads, hemp in both rope and loose fiber... lots of wicking materials to play with. ;-)

Vic, I'm going to get slaughtered for this but if you're having any grief with coils messing about with them yourself they are really cheap just to buy a ton of them and change them over whenever you want to and you will get NONE of this crap. I'm not dissing anyone who does it all themselves and I'm sure they get a much better vape and coils last longer etc but for me it just isn't worth messing about with. Stock up on coils, clean them a bit and dry burn if you like but if it's not working out just stick another coil in there.

I have read so many threads about people who just can't get into messing about with coils and wicks and they get a ton of advice that sounds Greek to me and probably to them too. Six weeks worth of coils costs less than ONE pack of cigs is how I think of it.

You said you replace the flavor wick do you also replace the wick in the coil if not that's your problem.

You didn't say anything on the wick it self?

Make sure you prime your wick after washing it.

Ok that is a little too much work. Lol looks like I need to find some organic stuff. Ugh! Guess you live and learn. Any suggestions on where to find organic stuff. I live in a big city but all the cool places are on the rich side of town and again too lazy to drive that far. Lol
Here are a few "recommended" wicking materials.
Peaches and Cream unbleached cotton yarn
    Hemp fiber
"Koh Gen Do" brand cotton make-up pads
    Studio 35 Organic Cotton Balls | drugstore.com
Simply Cotton Organic Sport Yarn - 100% organic cotton Sport Knitting Yarn, Crochet Yarn and Roving

When I started out with the Protanks, I, too, couldn't be bothered with redoing anything.

Then one day, I sat down and took notice of the amount of time it was taking me to thoroughly clean the heads to make them last longer. At that point, I realized I was spending just as much time cleaning the buggers, as I would spend rebuilding them.

Well, that did it. Found a couple of videos that showed how to rebuild 'em, said "I can do that!", and off to the races I went.

First couple weren't too hot, but you get better at it. Now? If I dig a new head out of the box, it's for parts. The taste just doesn't compare now. Sure, it's a lot easier to just toss a new one in, but in the long run, I'm saving $$$ by rebuilding them and the taste is far superior.
