Hi all, new to ECF. I decided on the Halo line because everyone raved how good and easy it is. I started me and my girlfriend on the G6 with Sub-Zero which I loved so much I upgraded myself to a Halo Triton VV. This triton experience has been nothing short of awful. At first the Triton was great... it felt cleaner, more vapor, easier to use compared to the G6. However after about a week it gets burnt tasting and the atomizer I guess gets completely clogged up with produces a *gurgling* sound and NO air flow. I try taking the tank apart and cleaning/drying it.... blowing the center post free of any liquid...adjusting that "rubber boot" thing higher and lower on the wick. Nothing!! The only thing that does help is completely replacing the atomizer head with a new one out of the package. This only works good for a few days until the whole cycle starts all over again. Burnt taste, gurgling noise and barely any airflow at all! Feels like I'm trying to suck up a lake through the center post. I've been through 5 atomizers in a very short time and this Triton is not enjoyable at all. I enjoyed the G6 much much better. Someone help?

Also while we're on the topic what's the best glass tank I can use on my Triton? I know I need an adapter but I think maybe it will help the taste out a little better. Thanks ! :D

I would try some clear lighter juices. I have noticed that I get much better air flow with Kringles Curse verses some darker thicker juices. Also when using the VV battery I would not crank the volts up to the max too much, only when it feels like you need to burn off some gunked up juice that is restricting the air flow. They recommend using the highest ohm coils on the VV battery to prevent that burnt taste. I never had the G6, I went strait for the Triton and have since gotten a big MOD for home use but still take my Trition with me when I leave the house. I have only used the Triton tanks, I never got the adapter. Hope this helps and good luck. I

Drizzy Drake,
Hi. Sorry your experience hasn't been good.

First, a week is too long to go without rinsing and soaking the tank and coil. I would expect to see the problems you are having. I would rinse/clean after every 3 tankfuls.

And for some reason, sub zero users tent to like it strong, with the voltage up. The higher you run the voltage, the faster the coils will gunk up.

As with any tank, regular maintenance is a must, or prepare to buy a lot of replacement heads. Look over the other Halo threads. You will find LOTS of threads on this issue.

As far as the glass tank? There was a thread about someone finding one that worked.

(psst, but you might find it easier to just get a $25 ego VV battery and a glass tank. I haven't found any that vapes better with the flavor of a Triton, but it is glass)

Best of luck.

Hi everyone and thanks for the responses! I appreciate it!
A couple of questions.....

I assume you are speaking of the Regular sized Triton tanks not the minis correct?
What ohm did you get?
What volt are you setting it on?
Does it happen right after you fill the tank?
Hi AngiBe. Yes I am using the regular sized tanks... I'm using the 2.6-2.8 ohm and the volt is around 4.1-4.2. I feel like this setting gives me the perfect warm flavor and vapor without tasting burnt. Anything higher on the voltage taste burnt to me. Keep in mind before the atomizer gets "clogged up" because once that happens any volt setting tastes burnt. It doesn't happen right after I fill the tank on a new atomizer it takes about a week to get "gunked up".

I would try some clear lighter juices. I have noticed that I get much better air flow with Kringles Curse verses some darker thicker juices. Hi Rouke. As I said I'm using Sub-Zero and that is pretty much as clear/light as it gets. Before I got it with no nicotine and it is completely clear with no color at all! I've never vaped dark juices. (Does Halo make any dark juice? I've gotten about 6 flavors and they've all been very light.) As I said up top I'm using 2.6-2.8 ohms at around 4.1-4.2v... does this seem normal? BTW that MOD looks awesome!
What's your cleaning process? Do you dry burn before cleaning? How often do you clean? Are you using the same tank all day every day or do you rotate through others with different flavors?
Hi always9988. My cleaning process is pretty much emptying the tank, blowing the air/juice out of the center post, washing and drying all the components except the battery and letting them air dry. I only use 1 tank because I only vape Sub-Zero on my triton. With the G6 which I enjoy better I've vaped different juices in different cartos and never had this problem of no airflow. I've always never exactly "dry burned" as I never got around to understanding it. Is this a key component I'm missing?

Hi DaveOno. To be completely honest with you.. I'm an EXTREMELY slow vaper. I'm more of a stressed/social vaper than an all-the-time vaper. It probably takes me about a week to go through a 2.4ml tank and by the time that is done the triton will be clogged up/plugged up/gunked up/etc.... I do 2.6-2.8ohm at 4.1-4.2v. Do you think that setup is too high? Is dry burning the component I'm missing with all this or is there something else that's plugging up my triton so soon? Like I said a new head completely remedies the problem for about another few mL or so....

Thanks everybody for trying to help...I've tried to give as much information as I could but if anyone has any other questions please ask! Also Cinder Ella I got your PM but I can email Halo about my personal experience about their vaping products? I thought they were more for questions about ordering from their website and what not... Anyway thanks !!:D:D

I took one of the atomizers apart to clean it per a youtube video and once he pulled the the top cap off he said the two wicks just pull out. I took a picture and 1 of my wicks is intertwined with the coil and 1 is free. If I pull both wicks out how will I get the only one back in? I don't dry burn it with the wick in do I... Here is a pic. Does it look dirty?

Welcome Drizzy Drake, It sounds like your coils need a good cleaning. Here is a link of different tank cleaning methods, we all do it a little differently so you pick what works for you.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/halo/509052-tank-cleaning-day.html

Also be careful of when you start pressing the fire button. I can make my coils last a long time by starting the act of drawing on the Triton a second before I fire the button then I let off the button a second before I stop drawing. That way the burning coil always has air flowing to minimize caramelizing on the coil and gunking it up. My husband was going through a coil every few days when I finally noticed he started firing and caramelizing the juice before he ever got it close to his mouth. Now his coils last alot longer. :D

I love my G6 with the automatic batteries cartomizers and drip tips. I still use them because some juices just taste better to me in them but I absolutely love my Tritons. I use the 2.6-2.8 coils because I like a cooler vape. I love flavor and so far I haven't found anything close to giving me the flavor a Triton does.

For a glass tank you can buy the Aspire ET-S BDC glassomizer tanks then purchase the Aspire ET coils replacement heads from Smokeless Image and switch out the coil from Smokeless image into the glassomizer and you won't need an adapter. This is a bottom dual coil tank and to me the BDC tanks mute the flavor of juices plus you'll go through juice alot faster. But if it is needed for tank cracking juices, you got to do what you got to do. I've only got 2 juices that are tank crackers a hot cinnamon and a citrus lemon.

I pretty much stick with my Tritons. I've bought some shineys from other places but nothing gives me the simplicity or ease of use that the Triton does with great flavor. Oh and it is so easy to stealth vape with my Tritons. ;)

The bottom wick is in the coil, I never remove it. I dry burn it to burn the caramelized juice off then you'll need to rinse it again. The top loose wick is the flavor wick and it is easy to remove and replace. I don't dry burn my coils that often a good denture cleaning soak usually does it for me.:) And if you pull the bottom coil to hard you can break the wiring connection, so be careful.

ETA your coil doesn't look gunked up at all. Have you already cleaned it? You dry burn to get the "black" burned caramelized juice off the coil when cleaning alone doesn't get it off. :)

Hi Evie... no I haven't dry burned it... I've only rinsed it under warm/hot water and made sure there were no burn marks on the wicks.

However... the Sub-Zero that I removed from the tank before cleaning it is a dark orange compared to the light pink color of the new Sub-Zero in the bottle.. what gives ??

It turned darker because the caramelized juice on the coil also gets "washed" back into your tank where your "fresher" juice is. It is normal but some of us burn or caramelize the juice more than others. I run my juice at 3.6-3.7 volts using the 2.6-2.8 ohm coils. :) I like it a little cooler plus I don't get the coils as hot as you do at 4.1-4.2. We all like different flavor ranges. You'll get the hang of it Drake, vaping is a journey. :D

Think of it like this. If you take sugar mixed with cool water, it will disolve and look clear again. Take that same sugar water and put it on the stove on low heat it will thicken but the color won't change much. Turn the heat up higher and the sugar water with start to caramelize and get even thicker which is a delicious base for alot of sweet recipes and the color will darken. But if you let it cook too long or at too high a temperature it will scorch and taste nasty. It's when you truly scorch the juice to your coils is when you get the really nasty flavor. A little caramelizing of your juice can taste good but too high heat can scorch it.

Yes the G6 is a wonderfully simple device with little maintenance. I still love my G6.

Almost any juice will darken in these tanks for the reasons given by Evie.

Your problem has me puzzled, so here are a few things to toss out there. Sort of problem solving, process of elimination.

You only have one tank? Get another tank, I can't think this is an answer, but it's one thing that is constant and hasn't been changed out. And try another juice. I know sub-zero is the ultimate menthol, but try Kringle's Curse. I find it as strong, and very clean vaping. I don't vape sub-zero, just way too intense for me. So, I don't have much experience with sub-z, trying another juice would see if this is a sub zero thing.

And maybe try some Fusion. It's only $5 for a 7ml. I'd add 0.2 to 0.4 ml in a tank of Sub-zero. Hey, it couldn't hurt.

Try vaping at a slightly lower voltage. You say you do 4.1 to 4.2. Try 3.9 to 4.0. I know you are at slightly higher resistance coils, and this should make it vape a bit cooler. I wonder if your VarVolt is really putting out the right voltage. My 2 VVs are dead on. At 3.8 or 4.3 on the dial, I get exactly that voltage reading on my voltmeters, all 3 of them. Again, just eliminating any possible causes.

Don't vape all the juice out of the tank. Top it off often. The darker juices in the remnants tend to gunk quicker, and get even darker, sort of a death spiral. So when it gets to half full, top it off.

Some people take many hits rather quickly. If the coil is getting too hot, that might be a problem. As soon as I feel some real heat at the top of the tank, I'll stop (and vape on a different tank). Another reason to get a second (or third) tank.

OK, hope all this mess somehow helps. Best of luck, Drizzy.

I suspect you are just vaping too hot, but I do wonder if Chesty isnt on to something too.

Where do you keep the device when not using it? how hot is it where it sits? is it in direct sunlight?

When your tank starts to become hard to draw, if you remove the tank from the battery do you see a small bead of liquid on the center battery terminal? (not just mild condesnation but an actual mini-droplet)
