So I got my HC kayfun 3.1 clone in today. I broke it down and rinsed it off and let it dry. In the mean time, I put a new coil and wick into the Kayfun Lite I've had for a while...everything went as planned.

Put the first coil on the new one...and a short....hmmm....not even my ragged first coil ever made had a short. Looked at it...lifted off the deck...no wire stubs touching anything...looks good...still a short. Took the coil off and started over and over and over and over...all shorts. 8 wraps, 28ga, 7/64ths bit...supposed to be 1.4 ohms. The Kayfun Lite coil is, the new 3.1 has me scratching my head as to what the hades is going on.

What, other than the coil can short out a tank...or the build deck..as the rest of the tank is still sitting on the towel. I've got no clue what to look for.:mad::unsure:

Check the positive pin at the bottom of the 510 connector, if it is off center at all it may be making contact with the body and causing a short.

It could also be contact between the positive and negative blocks inside the chamber if the block is not lined up perfectly. QC in mass produced items can be quite shoddy at times.

Kayfun Shorts:
Coil touching Deck
Positive Block Rotated
Positive Block insulator not isolating block properly
Center Pin/screw touching at 510
Center pin/screw bent - touching Base section
Adjustment screw or Machining Debris in air passage touching Center pin

I see NO information relating the ANY TYPE OF METER
Ohm meter would show the short
Multimeter would show the short

Why do things 1/2 way?

I did take the screw out to separate the deck and the juice collector under the deck to wash it. I unscrewed the, well, screw to just a tad past flush, and got a good ohm reading. So is this thing safe to use or what??????

As long as the positive block is tight and not touching anything but the insulator it sits on, yes, it's fine. You seem to have a 3.1 version, with the chamber. And it's easy to get the block mis-aligned when putting it back together. Just have to be careful and observant. And, of course, always check resistance before firing! :)

But you'll need to open it back up to make sure it's all tight and clear inside.
