Basics for battery mods?

Don't worry the batteries are safe if used correctly. If I were you i would pick up some AW 18650's and 18350's at rtd vapor. AW is pretty much the best battery out there. The Vamo has battery protection so when it gets low it will shut off so it doesnt over discharge. To be safe though charge the battery before it hits 3.4 volts. The chargers have an automatic shutoff so they shouldn't over charge, but if your worried pick up a battery charging bag that way if soemthing goes wrong it will be contained. Other than that you should be pretty good.

I have recently bought a nitecore Intellicharger i4 v2, appears to be a good peace of kit, will charge 18650's - 18350's I did a lot of reading before hand and it has good reviews on the forums. it has lots of functions on it to condition and protect the bat.

I'd also recommend Not stacking 18350's in the Vamo. Though it can take them, stacking batteries is not recommended.
I have been using Ultrafire XSL 18650 2600mah batteries in mine with excellent results. Good battery life and no problem getting enough wattage.

I've got a vamo coming soon. It will be the first device that's not an ego, pass thru or x6 1300mah.
Concerned about using batteries properly(charging/discharging). Using correct batteries. Aka don't want to blow any thing up

Stick with AW IMR batteries. Totally reliable & safer chemistry. For a charger go with Xtar WP2 II charger. It has independent charging. Can switch from 500mA to 1000mA. Comes with spacers for charging 18350 bats (buy 2 more spacers if you want to charge two 18350s at a time). Stops charging completely when bats hit 4.2v (will not overcharge). Cheap.
Rule Number One: Respect the power within a battery.
Rule Number Two: Use common sense when using batteries.
Rule Number Three: If your device can be manually turned off when not in use, turn it off. If not, either remove the battery or the juice delivery device to inactivate the battery.
Rule Number Four: Your pocket was not intended to be a battery holder for your mod.
Rule Number Five: Even "protected" batteries can suffer a short and vent in thermal runaway.
Evidence of all of the above:

As XfooYen mentioned, the AW IMR batteries and Xtar WP2II charger are great buys... Safe batteries, and safe charger.
No offense to anyone that likes them, but I would steer clear of any battery with "Fire" at the end of the brand name...

I've seen reports of these batteries venting themselves into PV's... Not good
In addition to the AW, I can strongly recommend Efest IMR's. All testing and comparisons suggest that the Efest batteries and AW batteries are neck and neck in performance, chemistry structure is the same, and the Efest batteries tend to be a tad bit cheaper. You know, if you're interested in saving money
Also of note... If you EVER intend to buy a ProVari (You may not be interested now, but you can change your mind later...) you will want to make sure you get "Button Top" batteries as opposed to "Flat Top"
The construction of the ProVari circuit board prevents flat top batteries from functioning (The positive terminal of the mod is recessed into the board)
That way you can use the batteries with the ProVari as well...
If you do plan on going against the advice of your peers and stack 18350's in the Vamo, you will need to get flat top 18350's... Two button top 18350's stacked will be a little too big, and the bottom cap / battery cover will not thread on all the way.
