Ok, so my bats both arrived charged, or at least partially. However, I can't get them to accept a charge now that i've used one of them up!

I think perhaps I'm just not understanding this charger. Take a look at what I'm seeing and tell me what you think please:

Here is the charger plugged in with nothing in it

Here is the little metal slider piece. It's really really loose. It can just move by leaning the device one way or another, and doesn't lock into any position.

Now here is the dead battery in the charger with that metal slider pushed all the way up against the bottom.

So it seems to me, because the light is staying green that the battery isn't charging. I have to be missing something. HELP!

Try pulling on and extending the charger's negative side metal piece so that the batt has better contact when you insert it into the charger.

When you pull that metal piece out a bit, the batt will snap in and have full contact.

EDIT: Never mind - I just took another look at your pic. It appears you have an adjustable negative pole contact piece.

Hope someone then can help solve the problem.

Try unplugging the power cord from the charger. Then put the battery in. Then put the cord back in.
That is what I have to do with one of mine.

Ok, just tried that but it didn't change anything. Lights still green.

Yep, I tried pulling it up to lock into place or something but no dice.

I do not have a multimeter handy unfortunately. I'm traveling, as I am most weekends.

But, yes, both batteries will not turn the light from green to red and charge (as far as I can tell). I just tested it.

Bend the lower tab of the charger inward to get better contact to the battery. I have to do this to my charger every few days or so it seems.

Well that charger was bad anyway, that bottom contact is supposed to be spring loaded and the spring makes the - contact inside the charger. that fact that you didnt have spring action means that the charger would make no contact with the battery no matter how hard you pressed it against the bottom of the battery.

PS: If your "traveling" south I live in Fort Pierce You can have my charger I already have a twin charger so dont need it.

I am in the North Orlando area this weekend, so that would be a BIT out of the way. But that you very much for the offer, just goes to show what a great place this forum is to be.

IN OTHER NEWS:
I am going today to buy a new charger/battery whatever I have to, to get my SB working again. I searched the web pages of both BatteriesPlus and Radio Shack (as they are the only places I know to go) and I did not find anything for UltraFire or TrustFire. Anyone have any ideas?

Good luck, I called around in your area and no one knows what an 18500 even is. I have a charger in the mail because I'm starting to doubt you'll find one...although a few of the places said 'Bring it in so we can see it' :p

A set of cr2 camera batteries will work in it, they should last a day for you. Just remember to keep the atty moist. I have a set i put in for a bigger hit. Just a thought
