Batt sizing question for 18500

Been watching the forums for a few weeks before I registered today and am planning on building my first mod over the next week as parts come in. My only real big question comes in the size of my battery selection.

I have chosen to use the 18500 protected Li-on that I found on Battery Junction's website. It's an Ultrafire 1600 mah, 3.7 volt... you know the drill.

I've looked at the dimensions on the web site and compared it with the 14500, and it appears to be somewhat shorter and somewhat fatter around than a AA or a 14500. i.e.: 18500 50mm x 18mm, 14500/AA 52mm x 14mm
Is this correct?

I was looking at building a modified NicoStick, thanks for the steps in your post Nicowolf! Didn't know if the 18500 would work in the same box with a spacer to make up the difference in length.

Any thoughts?

I think the first two digits are diameter and the second two are length. So, the 18500 would be 4mm fatter then the 14500 but they should be the same length.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Quite right. But in practice there might be an extra mm or two.

And this is why some 14500 batteries are not suitable, are in fact backup type. The number is just a size. So make sure the 14500 (or whatever) that you order is not some 'speciality'/backup type. Ask, or check the max. current rating or typical/suggested uses.

Thanks for the tips all, best fit I found on the 18500 was as suggested to me offline and on here, the magnum lite mod.

Fits beautifully! I'll put up some pics soon, 2 days of vaping before I need to change the batt. Now I just have to solve the rapid decline in vape production out of all of my attys.

Now the reading begins for me in a different section of the forums.
