my sony vct4 is all black by the negative end, underneath the shrink wrap. any ideas? possible arching? I had a hole in the wrap wait for new wrapping, also not using it just wondering whats going on.

What made it black Kile, heat? What device is it in? You can't give us too much information.

Hi kile and welcome aboard!

I agree, damaged batteries are nothing to fool with, and new ones are cheap.

before that, I had it in the god mod. but before I get any bad comments I dint buy it to go up to high watts, that's stupid if you ask me... I hit it on 30 watts and didn't have to charge it for 2 days. that's why I bought it. but it put hole in my brand new vct4 wasn't even 3 weeks I had it. don't us that anymore. plus never dropped it never anything.

The battery or the wrapper is black? Holes can be caused by a sharp edge or burr in a mech mod. If it's doing it to all your batteries then my guess would be the mod is the problem. Does the battery look like its been arcing? Mech mods by nature will cause some arcing on the bottom of the battery. You will get some slight pitting. But black ?

If it's only the wrapper then its a common discolouring with Sony batteries. No one has been able to come to a conclusive position on what causes it but apparently it's harmless. If you take off the wrapper you will see that nothing can leak from the bottom of the battery. Its completely sealed. It may be due to moisture or heat..no one really knows. Just re-wrap them if you're concerned. I've got two like that and they work fine.

Nah he said the god mod pit the mark on the battery which unless the mod was damaged in some way I cant see that being a fault of the mod. Was the mod or the battery dropped or damaged anytime recently? I once had similar markings, but not wholly black, on a samsung 25r when I dropped my Fuhattan mech on the ground and it landed right on the button. Had a nasty impact whoch wrecked the battery caused severe arcing but it still wasnt as bad as what you describe.

See post #8 where he claims it put holes in all his VTCs. This would lead me to believe that it's the mod and not the batteries. Now is he talking about torn wrappers or arcing burn marks? It's not uncommon to tear a wrapper when inserting batteries into some regulated devices. The Sigelei 100w is a good example.

He also claims that in #1 there are black marks under the wrapper on the bottom of the battery which also leads me to believe it is discolouration.

#6 he talks about his "dimitri dual 18650 mech mod" and black marks around the negative contact. This would make me think arcing - a common phenomenon with mechs.

The OP needs to be a little more clear. Pictures would go a long way.
