Are there "knock off" batteries to be concerned about? I want to make sure I get exactly what you have pictured and not an explosive firebreathing dragon in sheeps clothing

Not all knock offs are created equal, so since you don't know their background I'd say yes. But make no mistake those AW, Panasonic, Samsung batteries we all enjoy so much come from Asia just like the knock offs. With knock offs there is just not enough information both about the about companies and the technical specs.

Get your cells from RTD and you won't have to worry about knockoffs.

The two grey batteries in some Vamo kits are unprotected ICR cells and should be relegated to third string on the backup depth chart.

AW batteries are not "manufactured" by AW. They are batteries made by other manufacturers (Panasonic?), tested and hand picked by a guy actually named A. Wong in China. He chooses only the top tier of batteries to carry his name, has them wrapped in his distinctive red (IMR) or black (protected) battery wraps. His batteries have gained international recognition as the most consistant and highest quality batteries in their class. They are recommended by more mod manufacturers and battery experts than any other battery.

RTD Vapor has confirmed that he buys all of his AW batteries directly from AW.

Am I the only one on this site that doesn't get their batteries from them? I use light hound, I should be banned!

I've been vaping for over 4 years and mostly have used stacked batteries. With a modicum of common sense, the risk is minimal.

A single battery can also explode under the right circumstances and have. I'm sure there are some "stats" somewhere that shows the incidence of batteries malfunctioning in this manner. Since it is not cropping up on the largest vaping site worldwide as a big problem, my strong guess is that it is happening less than 2% of the time with single batteries and less than 2.2% of the time with stacked batteries. (it's probably even lower than that) I'm not going to sweat the .2% or whatever the actual number is.

Holy Sierra. What was that guy thinking by shoving a sharp object into a battery pack like that? What did he think would happen?

He stated he was doing it to push the battery pack to vent to show people what can happen. The pack was already toast because it was swelling. The same thing can happen when you draw too much current, or over charge, or crash the aircraft. I appreciate the public service he did.

Ok, ive done it meow. two of the AW 18650 and a Nitecore-i2 charger are now ordered. Thanks for the help and I think ill feel alot safer leaving those plugged in with that charger over night.

as with any type of battery with any type of charger... the rule of thumb is to never leave charging batteries unattended. so unless you are a night owl, i wouldnt leave them charging overnight. best to do it in the evening and just take them off the charger before you go to bed.

You technically could as a some of us hard heads do (and wont admit nor suggest it), but thats a whole other set of saftey precautions. some kind of airflow, room for heat to dissipate, away from and not on top of flammables, heat sources and other electronic devices... etc

Just curious, anyone know what the cord length on that charger is? The website doesnt indicate. I have a stone top coffee table that I think would be a great place to lay the charger. Itll be away from the walls, nice and cool and well stone. Thing could go up like a christmas tree and not cause too much damage

I agree with the red AW IMR 18650 batts for all my stuff! I use them for my Provaris and other vv mods. However, if you eventually get into a mechanical mod, then you would wanted protected batts. But with the Vamo, I'd definitely get the red AW IMR batts :)
I have mechs and I'm using AW IMRs.
