It is likely you are referring to a Sony VTC battery. They often list their batteries as 3.6 volts.

If you'll do a search here on the forum for Mooch's recommended batteries, you'll find the batteries you are looking for.

I would be happy using a battery that is specified 3.6v if it was a genuine 20 amp battery.
Quite a few good batteries seem to be called 3.6v. (LG, Sony)
It is OK to use a 20a battery in a mod that suggests you use a 30a battery. You just can't expect to be able to reach the maximum settings.

Ok, for most 18650 lithium ion batteries, they give an overall rating to tell what kind of battery you're getting. %99 fo the batteries out there charge to 4.2 volts but drop down fairly quickly to plateau somewhat around the 3.8v, then slowly drop down to 3.2v to 3.4v before needing to be recharged. They average that to 3.6 volts. So, when it comes to voltage, just look for 18650 Lithium Ion.

Now the amp rating is how much power it can supply before the battery is being overworked and starts to build up heat. A lower amp battery cannot supply power fast enough without getting hot.. if overworked too much, it can cause damage to the battery and in extreme cases, get so hot it goes into a "thermal runaway" and vents gases. A higher amp rated battery can output more power for longer periods of time before getting to such a state.

Now, keep in mind, there is no official standard as to how a company can rate their battery. Some manufacturers list a "pulse" rating, some list a "sustained" rating. There's no standard as to how well the battery performs. In the 18650 world, it's best if you look for authentic cells, since there are many companies that re-brand batteries as their own, and there's no telling how good of a battery you truely have. For that reason, I would stick with authentic cells, and buy only from manufacturers who are reputable. Ebay is not a good source, since there is no telling if what they're selling is actually a true battery, or a cheap battery with a new wrap around it to make it LOOK like an authentic. Sometimes even the sellers are scammed.

Unless you're using that mod at full power all the time, a 20A continuous battery should be fine. Most vapers don't run at full power. A 20 amp should be fine.

A guy named mooch has done testing on batteries and came up with a good list of batteries to look for. I highly suggest you get an 18650 from this list... (and from a reputable company)

To keep it completely simple. Use either a Samsung 30Q or a LG HG2 which are both excellent 20 amp batteries, and don't go above 60 watts.
@RonnyLmm if you want the longer more complicated answer, just say and I will let you know how to calculate this for yourself.

LG HG2's have become too tempting a target for the counterfeiters for my taste.
Mooch even posted yet another fake he found last week.

I have 6 from a year ago but that's it for me... I'm afraid their early popularity will become their downfall (the HG2... not LG).

when you use batteries, they drop to 3.2 volts before needing a charge... if they run at 3.3, I see no issue with them running at 3.6 :)

That's not the point in question... it's the matter of some mfg's saying 3.6v while most state 3.7v.
Confusing.

It's just a spec of the battery's median/mean/midpoint or "nominal" voltage... halfway in the operational range of 3.2v to 4.2v. They're all the same (our little Li-Ions) so it's meaningless, or rather... not something to be concerned over.

I agree. It's a nominal value. There are so few exceptions to the rule, that I wouldn't even consider it a value. I can only think of one 18650 battery that goes beyond the standard lithium ion 4.2 volts, and it's an older ICR battery (Samsung 18650 30B) I still say get something that Mooch recommends. He has done his own testing, and pretty much ignores what the manufacturer says.
