so what is the main difference between the icr and the inr?

One is suitable for vaping use (INR), one is not (ICR)
INR is a high drain hybrid 'safer' chemistry battery. Vents in a more controlled way, a little smoke, sizzle, battery rupture is slower, but can still be dangerous in non ventilated tubes
ICR is a more volatile chemistry and are not recommended for vaping. Vents with flame, smoke, battery rupture can be explosive in a confined space, even in ventilated tubes.

Bad's blog explains it: Battery Basics for Mods
- choose the safest and right battery for your applications here. Includes a list of name brand, high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries with mAh & amp ratings in 18350, 18490/18500, and 18650 sizes.

Which list, Susan... I know the ICRs and IMRs are in his blog posts... I've never even looked at INRs...
The INR's are in the same blog post (look at the Samsung batteries in the list). He doesn't talk about INR's specifically but I take it they are considered hybrid batteries.

I = lithium ion
N= nickel / manganese oxide cathode
R= round cell
They are a hybrid safer chemistry high drain battery usually / mostly found in Samsung batteries.

I= Lithium ion
M= manganese oxide cathode
R= round cell
Safer chemistry high drain most common across various battery manufacturers.

I= lithium ion
C= cobalt oxide cathode
R= round cell
Not high drain, uses pcb protection circuitry to avoid damage from over load of volatile rapidly expanding chemistry.
Track record of protection circuit failure when used in high drain applications.
Un protected cells of this variety give little to no warning signs before catastrophic failure.
No longer recommended for vaping use.

Ahhh.... I see. Thanks for that. I've stuck with VTCs for 18650 and KeepPowers for 26650... gotta have my 30A limits! ;)
I see what you are referring to, though. Thanks again!

Thanks for that breakdown, Elvis... much appreciated!

See! Even an old dog can still learn something new from time to time! :D
