First of all, did you get an owners manual? The best thing to do would be to use whatever the manufacturer recommends.

To my knowledge, all the variable voltage/wattage PV's prefer the high drain, safer chemistry batteries designated as "IMR" batteries. There is no such thing as a protected IMR.

Protected batteries are Li-Lion batteries that use a simple protective fuse on the positive pole, thus they are slightly longer than an IMR. IMR's do not require protection because of their safer chemistry. The processor-controlled PV's have built in protection that will shut the unit down if they sense a dangerous situation.

Some PV's are specific to whether the battery uses a flat top or a button top. I'm not familiar with either of the devices personally that you mentioned.
