An old battery is fine until it no longer delivers the goods, that could be either it isn't hitting hard enough, or its not lasting the distance. If it delivers on both counts, I would keep using it. A good measure of "lasting the distance" is how many mls of juice it can vaporize compared to a good battery. If its less, but acceptable, then no problem.
