And, to add to topwater elvis's post, single cell battery mods drain a cell fast when using dual coil builds. Especially with exotic coils. Simple, thin gauge round wire builds on dual coil RDAs seem to work well though, especially if you can stay under 50w. Single coil builds typically put less strain on a battery. Exotic coil builds with thin gauge wire on a single coil RDA also works well.

I have a Pulse 80W and a single Samsung 25R 18650 (lime green wrap) lasts a few hours using about 40 Watts. The firmware version installed at the factory is accurate, but not very efficient. The newer version of the firmware released last week addresses some of the battery issues.

Google Vandy Vape Pulse 80W firmware and you'll get a slew of hits linking to the new firmware.

I'm now using Vapcell 3100mah/30A 20700 batteries. Battery life is much improved.

I liked the mod witrh 18650 even with the battery issue. I love it with the 20700.

If you enjoy the vapcell battery, you should try the Samsung 40T. It is a 30a 4000mah. I used to have to swap batteries once a day, but not with this cell, it usually isn't even all the way down when I recharge it at night.

A few months on with the Pulse 80 and I still very much like the mod except for one thing. Battery life. I find it pretty abysmal TBH. Likely down to the nature of it being a single cell mod but trying it out with numerous new 20700 batteries and the performance is not acceptable for me.

I find that using any kind of fancy coils (which IIRC Tony be installed in his atty one one of the videos) at around 0.25 ohm the battery drops like a stone, inevitable really I guess given the power they draw but I did expect better. Playing around with various other coils using NiCr 80 and Kanthal at ranging between the 0.3 - 0.5 range and the battery life improves some but at the expense of some flavour loss.

I will continue to use the mod but for regular use with the coils I prefer I'll be switching to a dual cell soon, just waiting for Lost Vape to announce the specs on the new Drone 250 being released in the next month or so, if that doesn't fit the bill it will be a Rage I think.

Pity the Pulse 80 has no puff counter, would be interesting to see just how battery life holds up across coils.

IDK I'm not vaping my pulse yet but I am certainly willing to heartily endorse the fact that some mods are battery hogs and some aren't. Some of the time, it's due to background bells and whistles, which can be turned on or off, (sometimes) sometimes it's due to the efficiency (or lack thereof) of the board and how well it converts battery power into wattage or whatever.

I am saying it may not be your battery (especially if you are vaping at your usual wattage, it may be your setup and I usually find severe battery hogs may do better with a higher runtime battery but not always. Etc.

Good luck,

Anna

Down to the chip I think, there's other posts on here and elsewhere about Pulse 80 battery efficiency. As I said in another thread, I think the intended Gene chip may have performed better. I also think the Vandychip has been talked up in terms of a performance it can't deliver.

All of my settings are toned all the way down, time out 2 mins, no use of high power. It's not a case of battery (singular), it's 5, all brand new. It's OK, just, but not efficient enough for me to keep as a daily driver, much as I like it. Beach / pool mod for me.

Hopefully the new firmware up will address this.
Supposed to be released mid Sept....

Yeah, maybe. Trouble is I thought the last FW (006) was supposed to address it too so I'm not holding my breath.

Design chip, release chip, try to fix chip isn't my favourite approach from mod designers. All for improving chips but prefer not to be a beta tester for problems that should be designed out before release. Probably overly grumpy about this, but the battery life sucks!

It's common practice everywhere though. In Germany we call it the "banana effect", because those are sold green as well.

You will see this approach with all kinds of tech. Many tech industries are just way too competitive for a company to design a product and work out all the bugs and flaws before releasing to the public. They would just get consumed by their competitors.

I can almost guarantee this is not a Vandy Vape designed chip but an OEM – from who, I have no idea (maybe one day I’ll pull it apart). It would take a massive amount of recourses and engineering skillsets to enter into a regulated mod market from scratch. It would be impossible for Vandy Vape to pull this off within the time frame of when Voopoo pulled the plug on the project to when the Pulse 80 was released. And given it is an OEM, Vandy Vape may even have to rely on the OEM company for firmware updates.

I also wasn’t too pleased with the 18650 battery performance. Just purchased a 20700 for mine and although it only has a couple of hours on it, my impression is that battery performance has improved. This leads me to believe that the mod was designed around a specific cell and the 18650 support was thrown in there just for convenience and due to the fact this is the most popular battery.

I'm probably one of the fews that are quite satisfied by the pulse, 1 20700 lasts me an entire work day no problem sometimes lasts me until bed even.
I built a simple kanthal build around 0.6 0hms on my recurve at either 3 or 2.5mm diameter.
Didn't notice much of a difference after updates though, but works very well even with my drop (although i haven't used my drop much because it's dual coils and i like my batteries to lasts as long as possible.

Also use mine with the Recurve. At first I was using the Clapton coils that came with the recurve, but toyed with a simple SS and now N80 to try and improve on the 18650 battery life. The N80 seems to improve battery life, but difficult to judge without a puff counter. But the 20700 cell does seem to be a vast improvement. Got about dozen or more hits off of it so far and the battery meter hasn’t depleted at all.

Can’t comment on the firmware updates. I didn’t have mine with it’s original firmware for long before updating it.
