Sorry for another battery question(s) thread, but in the interest of safety (particularly mine), here's yet another:

I have almost exclusively been using Samsung 25R 18650 batteries in my IPV mini2 and Sigelei 100+ and have been happy with that. But I ordered an IPV D2 and wanted to get a couple more batteries that would work well in it as well as my other mods. I read around here some suggesting the LG HG2 3000 mah batteries and when checking those out, I see there is a Samsung 30Q 3000 mah battery as well. If I find I like the tamp control, I may also pick up a dual 18650 mod (looking at the Sigelei 150tc).

So, my question is will all these batteries work well and safely in all these mods (Sig 100+, IPV Mini 2, IPV D2, and Sig 150 tc) and, if so, which would give the best service and last longest? I realize the batteries for a dual battery mod must be married, etc., but can the single use batteries be mixed for use and charging?

Idealy, I'm looking at using/rotating my 4 unmarried Sammy 25R's in the IPV Mini2 (as I have been), 2 married 25R and 2 married new batteries in the 100+, and 2 new batteries in the D2. If I pick up the Sig 150tc, I will get 4 new batteries to marry up for that. If I am not clear, I need 2 new batteries for the D2 and 2 batteries to marry up for the Sig 100+. I do like the idea of different colors to help keep them straight.

So is it as simple as pick whichever 3000mah I feel like or are there differences. And I wasn't sure if it is appropriate to ask about who I am buying them from, but will say they are a forum supplier.

Thanks for any help/advice.

I and many others recommend purchasing from known reputable battery suppliers such as RTD Vapor, Illumination Supply, IMR Batteries, and Orbtronics. There will be essentially no chance of receiving inauthentic brand name batteries from these suppliers.

I always recommend buying name brand batteries from LG, Samsung, or Sony. These companies actually make their own bare cells. They sample them for quality control, and separate them into tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 batteries. The tier 1 are sold as the brand name manufacturer who made them, while the tier 2 and 3 batteries are sold to other brands like Efest and others. These other brands may advertise inflated specifications to compete with the major brands mentioned above, but being 2nd and 3rd tier batteries their quality is not as good as the tier 1 batteries sold by LG, Samsung, or Sony.

  • If using a high wattage regulated mod, use a 20 - 30 amp CDR IMR battery, which ever your mod's manufacturer recommends. The processor's amp limit determines the amp requirement in this application, not the atomizer resistance:
75W or higher, we recommend the Sony VTC4 2100 mah 30 amp CDR.

40W-75W = LG 18650HG2 3000mah 20Amp CDR
Samsung 18650-25R, 2500 mah 20 amp CDR (green wrap if you can, blue wrap is just fine)
LG 18650HE2 2500 mah 20 Amp CDR
Sony 18650VTC5 2600mAh 30Amp CDR (* tested as only a 20 amp CDR)
AW 18650 3000 mah 20 amp CDR
Under 40W = LG 18650HG2 3000mah 20Amp CDR
Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000mah 15Amp CDR
AW 18650 3000mah 20 Amp CDR

Thanks, Baditude! As the proverbial board battery expert, I appreciate your response.

As I have been alternating between married Sony VTC4 and married Samsung 25R batteries in the Sigelei 100+, it looks like I should pick up another pair of the Sony batteries and put the two 25R's into the single battery mods rotation with the Mini2 and D2, giving me a total of 6 to rotate between the two mods. That should be more then enough. Although it did seem the Samsungs lasted longer in the 100+, due to size, I only use it at home so no big deal. Maybe even better yet, pick up 4 new Sony VCT4's from one of your recommended vendors and dispose of the two I have been using that I got from the place I bought the 100+ online. That sounds like my best and safest option.

Thanks again!

ETA: Is the Sony VTC5 not an option?
I should have looked closer. They are rated 20A, so assume that is a no.

I got 2 pairs of LG HG2 batteries for my iStick 100W and I love them because they really last a long time. But one consideration I had when deciding on batteries was how I vape. I pretty much always vape in the 8-10W range with a very occasional 18-20W on one particular rta. So those batteries are perfect for me, as are the Sammy 25rs that I use in my single battery mods.

The Sony VTC5 is still a viable option for you. 20amp/2600mah quite similar to the Samsung 25R 20amp/2500mah. I've got 2 older ones I run in my IPV2 and they are still running after over a year and last a while on each charge, though I am in the 8 to 12watt range most times on the IPV2 with the occasional jump up to 20watts but never at its max of 50watts. 100watts and below any of the 20amp CDR batteries are good, that includes the LG HG2, HE2/HE4, HD Series, Samsung 25R, Sony VTC 4 and 5 all work, 75watts and below the Samsung 30Q comes into play at 15amp CDR. If you are looking for run time between charges but safe CDR 20amps (up to 100 to 120wats), your 3 choices are the LG HG2 (chocolate brown), Sony VTC5, and Samsung 25R (Older Rev3 Light blue or newer Rev5 Green). Needing good CDR with decent run time, Samsung 25R, LG HE2/HE4, Sony VTC4 VTC5. Needing high CDR 30amps (120watts plus) Sony VTC3, VTC4, LG HB6. Needing long run time, low power output (60watts and below), LG HG2, Sony VTC5, Samsung 30Q.

Depending where your playground and needs are, that breakdown is about how I tell anyone.
