I'm a dummy when it comes to this stuff, so I have a couple questions. For the batteries recommended AWIMR 14500, why aren't protected batteries recommended?
Charger question: How soon after the light turns green do you have to get the batteries out of the charger? Just wondering in case you are not right on top of it all the time. Thanks.

i personally use the black label AW batts with the protection. altho i hear the AWIMR batts give more consistent performance till voltage drop off or something like that. and the charger thing, depends on your charger i would guess. but i have not had issues leaving my batts on the charger after the light goes green, i usually charge them overnight with no issues.

Because the protection circuit can fail, so safe chemistry batteries are inherently safer. Read this: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html

As to performance, for the small batteries, like the 14500 used for the Mini, the output on the protected 14500's is lower than what is required to safely power a LR atomizer. The High drain battery, the AW IMR 14500, has superior output and more consistent performance.

BTW, BDL also manufactures a high drain safe chemistry 14500. It is blue, and many of the REOnauts have had bad experience with them holding their charge. Get the AW IMR 14500's only.

I am not obsessive about grabbing my batteries off of the charger as soon as they turn green. I know that it will shorten the battery life eventually. *shrug*

Some chargers are different. My charger (cheap ol TR001) seems to stop charging after its "full" so if I'm away when it turns green, I simply check with a multimeter to make sure its not over charged...and so far, so good....been using this charger for about 9 months. Only bummer is that I can only charge one at a time now. *shrugs* oh well. :)

Hmm, hope that is not a common problem with those.
