I am interested in hearing the opinions of my fellow ECF members on the correct procedure for charging a new AW IMR High Drain lithium ion battery. I have read many varying opinions on the internet and I wanted to see what members procedures might be. Long charge (8 hrs), charge till light is green, full charge use for an hour then full recharge? There were many different ways that people say are the best. I just wanted to see what you all thought. I personally charge them till the charger says they are charged and remove them. I try not to let them fully discharge before I recharge. I have three one is a back up and I rotate the other two. quasimod's post has some good info on the subject. Yeah, I am bored.

Well vaprhd, it's my opinion that the batteries should be left on the charger until the light turns green, then just use it as you normally would.

I don't see any reason to leave it on the charger for 8 hours. Even if you do have a trickle charger, it seems like it would do more harm than good.

But, it couldn't hurt to charge it to green, use it a short period, then put it back on the charger until fully charged again.

Not to hijack this tread, but I would like some more info on this subject. Will the battery continue to charge even after the light on a trustfire charger has turned green? if I pull my 18650's off the charger when the light turns green, the read 4.15 volts. Will they eventually get to 4.2 if they are left on? I find that I can watch the voltage in my lavatube drop about .1 per hour if i use it as I normally would vape.. seem like i got more time off an 1100mah ego battery. So do you guys normally leave the battery on the charger for a while even after it turns green?

The 8 hrs is a left over from the Nim battery days, LI Ion or IMR don't have a memory and hence charge them whenever you feel the need. Once they turn green, vape away.

Leaving them on will not necessarily give you that 0,5V <----- which when we look at it, is pretty insignificant in the overall picture. As we should not leave our batteries on a charger unattended, when they go green, take 'em off and store them in a case until needed.

When the charger senses that no more current is flowing to the bat then the green light will come on. It will stay green with no current flow and not charge at all. A slight current flow will switch the light back to red.
Have you seen how a car bat charger works?
At start, the amp meter is high and will drop as the bat reaches 12.8v then the amp reading is zero. No more charging. Green light on.
This is the same with ALL charges. I have been in this profession for 28 years.
Yes, perhaps let it rest for 8 hours so all the ions can congratulate each other for a feat well done then settle down and wait for the laggers to take some charge. But unfortunately, I have NEVER seen the red light come back on.
