So, I ordered the VK about 3 weeks ago, and got 2 batteries in my initial order (plus a USB pass-through compliments of Steve, thanks!). All are the auto-switching type. Now, after some heavy use, one of my batteries keeps staying on beyond the 5-second cutoff. In fact, I tried it last night, and it stayed powered on continuously for over 30 minutes.

I have heard from some people that the switching mechanism on these autos can get gummed up, and may need to be cleaned with alcohol or something similar. Is there a video of this, or any other battery maintenance tips? Or did I just get a 'bad' battery?

Thanks for any help you can offer. I just ordered the uberbattery today, and can't wait to get it!

You are going to love the uberbattery! ;)

Can't help you with the auto battery thing, ever since I got the manuals they have been sitting in a drawer lol! I am sure someone can offer tips and if not, maybe Steve can help you. Good luck!

It is still shiny. Should I clean down inside the main hole in the center, or just around the threads and contacts on the top?

Do not stick anything in the hole. I did and totally killed my battery. I wanted to try to fix it because it was sticking on. I am very surprised yours stayed on for 30 minutes. I hope you did not have a cartomizer attached. I am sure I read some where there is supposed to be a secondary 8 second safety cutoff. You definitely have a dud...just put it in the comments section on your next order and you will be taken care of.

Thanks for the tip - I was kinda concerned about sticking anything in there.

I was pretty amazed at that, too - I took the carto I had on there off once I noticed that it wasn't shutting down. I could get it to shut off for a few seconds if I shook it up and down vigorously, but it would turn on again a few seconds later all on its own.

I had actually placed an order for more cartomizers, juice, and the uberbattery this morning. I replied to the confirmation email and Steve said he's sending me replacements for BOTH of my original batteries. Talk about customer service that goes above and beyond!

Yup..his customer service was the main reason I ordered from him. I too have a new battery on the way..:D In the meantime I am using my passthrough hooked up to 4 NiMh batteries. My roommate is using my other battery and that one is still as good as the day I bought it. Plan to order another one on my next order so I have a backup.
