I started vaping about 3 weeks ago, I have a Joye510 e-cig. From the beginning I have rotated 2-3 batteries. As the days have gone by I have vaped more and more, smoked less. I am now chain-vaping to stay away from the cigs.

The amount of time my battery holds a charge is getting shorter. In the beginning I used one battery while the other was charging. When the charge was complete I would put it in the tin box I use until I needed it. As of last night, the battery being used gives out almost as soon as the other one is charged up. I hope this is making sense. Is this normal? I never over-charge the batteries. I would have thought the batteries would last longer than that.

BTW, I have been chain-vaping for at least a week. Up until yesterday the batteries held a charge quite a bit longer even with the heavy use. Is this typical for the 510? I think I am going to have to get something a little more sturdy. I am chained to my battery charger.

I appreciate any input.:)

Hi Monsterkitty -
Have you cleaned the connections to your atty? Sometimes the connections can get icky and they need to be wiped and cleaned. If that doesn't work, it could be that your atty is dying or defective. Try changing out your atty with a new one.

I had a similiar problem a few months back. Was changing out 4 sets of batteries a day on my ST running HV510 atties. SirL suggested that I test the atties with a multimeter - sure enough, the atties were bad. Popped on a good atty and was good to go.

If you're chain vaping that much you might want to consider getting the 510 Mega batteries, moving to a KR808 or getting an eGo. All will have more mAh, which means they last longer between charges. This is especially true of the eGo. I've heard (although this is not confirmed) that the regular 510 batts don't hold up well to lots of charging. Honestly, I would recommend you move up to the eGo if you're chain vaping. You'll be able to use all of your existing 510 hardware and it'll hold up much better for near constant use.

I really loved the 510 and yes, the battery time gets shorter and shorter no matter how clean you keep everything. I have the PCC...kept one in there and 3 more charged. Ended up with 10 batteries (only a little paranoid ! LOL ). then moved to bigger battery mods !! (I still sometimes use the 510's depending on where I am...) The PT for home (and car with an adapter) is a great item !

Li-ion batteries have a usable service life , the lower the cost ( like an e-cig batt. ) the lower the life expectancy so they are just wearing out !
good rechargeables state that they will take 1,000 charges but that depends on quality .

bigger MAH ( milli amp hours ) = longer charge time / life

The problem is the batteries. You are using Joye 510 batteries which are rated at 180 milli Amp hours. When you take a puff, you are pulling about 1 Amp of current through it, which means that you are only getting (180mAh/1000mA) .18 hours of battery life, or about 10 minutes of "on" time. That is when the batteries are new, as they age they will degrade, and since they really are not rated very high to begin with they degrade faster than batteries that are used as they are supposed to be.

I explain some of this in the thread "The "E" in e-cigarette explained". Feel free to take a look and decide for yourself what your next battery will be. I recommend a big battery, since it is made to handle the power the e-cigs require.

Hope this helps.

hi everyone, and thank you all for your replies. actually i also have 3 atty's in rotation along with the batt's, i had read enough on here (before i ordered my 510 starter kit) to realize i would need at least one extra. i just bought 3 new batts/attys to have on hand, i was simply a little surprised that the originals would start to wear down so quickly.

it did occur to me in the beginning that i might have to upgrade soon after i started, but i wasn't sure then that i was even going to like vaping so i didn't want to spend too much. come to find out that i love, Love, LOVE vaping!!! i am an obsessive, addictive-type person as it is, so give me something like this and i go hog-wild for a while. i don't care how much i vape right now, i have not smoked a cig for over 48 hours, even before that was like 2 a day. but i'm getting off track here.......okay, so i will look into bigger batteries or better vapers, i think the ego looks pretty good, but i wonder if i will have to upgrade from that. i would rather just spend the money now and get something really good. i kind of like those juice-fed box mods(?) i think that's what they are called, but they seem hard to get. i can't see buying new batteries every couple of weeks.

thanks for the advice on the passthrough, i will definitely get that, and i appreciate the link to the e-cig explained, jaguar c.

A 510 battery has approximately a 200 recharge limit. As they wear out, their ability to hold a charge diminishes. The batteries I use have a 2000 recharge limit, hold a charge for about 6-7 hours and they cost $3 each. If your 510 is getting an hour or so on a charge, then they are doing what they are set up to do.

monsterkitty,

I'm glad to see you have taken to vapin, feels good huh?

I went from a KR808 kit to a bottom feeder juice mod in a matter of 40 days, and it really isn't that big if a jump. There is a thread here explaining the box mods, and if you act fairly quickly, fonosmoak, the builder of the Phidias, has some mods for sale now. Go to page 270 of the Phidias celebration sale to see the latest offering, some are gone but look through the thread to see what he has left. If you don't get one of those, just cyberstalk his thread and he will tell everyone when he is going to put up a new batch for sale, and they usually last a few days. I use a Phidias, and I don't see how I could be happier with anything else. In fact, he is going to build me a custom one in the next few weeks.

Good luck,

monsterkitty, I bought one the mega batteries 1000mah ego batteries and a mega atomizer and mega cartridge. I started out with the 510 and then went to the regular ego shortly after, due to the short battery life. I was getting about 5-7 hours of pretty heavy vaping on the regular ego batteries. With the mega battery, atomizer and cartridge, I get at least 12 hours of life (I have only had it for a couple days now) and the mega cartridge seems to last me just as long. Now, I finally found an e-juice that really takes the cravings away for me so I dont vape nearly as heavily as I did. But so far, one cartridge and one battery for pretty much the entire day is absolutely awesome for me. It is something you can get for not much money if you would like to try it.

If you break it down, I bought the battery, atomizer, 5 mega cartridges and 2 10ml 24mg juices for 42 bucks. So roughly the one complete ecig that created, equaled out to about 30-32 bucks and lasts me all day. (I already had a charger). You might want to look into it.

As for vaping heavily, I was getting frustrated that I always had to have my pv in my hand. I tried lots of different juices and nothing seemed to work for me. I enjoyed many of the flavors I bought, but nothing really satisfied that craving. I found 2 juices from myfreedomsmokes.com that has absolutely made vaping easier. I was a marlboro (ultra light 100's) 2pad smoker. As it turns out, his Marbro and 555 really has satisfied my cravings and I have found I don't need to vape nearly as much as I used to. Good luck and welcome to the vaping club!

Should you decide to move up to a mod, you won't be buying new batteries every couple of weeks. The batteries that mods use aren't your run of the mill Energizers and they last for quite a while. A box mod might be a good move for you because they're easy to use, inexpensive and hold up to use very well. You can get a JamBox from kalamazoovaporshop.com for around $30.
