Battery option question

I am considering designing a mod from the ground up. I know all the normal batteries that folks use and why..but what I don't get is why not other batteries? Like ryobi 4v lithium ion or what have you...(not that battery specifically its just what popped into mind.). Cordless tool batteries, 6v lantern batteries, etc?

Be kind with responses please, this may be a noob question but I want some clarification.

If this has an existing thread, I didn't see it in my search efforts....

The Ryobi and similar is most likely a 18650 in a tool 'tough' plastic shell, and the other tool packs are just that, battery packs containing li-ion or lesser cells. Since the mod has a case for the battery, why have the other casing? The 14.4v line of tools come to mind, which is 2 x 7.2v or 4 cells.

Really not too many restrictions on battery/power sources besides imagination. The biggest limitation is simply making sure the power source can support the amperage required to power our devices effectively. For batteries this is ofted referred to or defined as "C" rating or discharge rating. Some batteries simply cant discharge fast enough to power a mod without risk of damage to the battery or the user of the device being used.

Ok...cuz I have some big high capacity batteries in mind. With the idea of basically furniture type mods.

Ill keep researching, and pondering. When the design finally solidifies on paper, out comes the soldering iron....hehehe

Yeah some Li-Po batteries look attractive... Any particular ones? I'd like to figure a mobile phone battery or something for a slim box mod maybe....

No phone batteries, not enough power. Do a search for "RC Li-po". Li-pos for radio controlled airplanes, cars, etc. these ones have more than enough power - 10+C discharge rates. They do require special chargers though.
