You need those protective wrappings around the battery so the only contact points on the battery are the positive and negative opposite each other. The positive is isolated, but most of the battery casing is the negative, hence why it's wrapped so only the bottom is open for contact. There is a chance for a short. Don't use it.

You can find 18650 wrappings online. Here's just an example of precut ones. There are some videos showing how to apply them.

I never have a problem with the wrapping of batteries ever getting torn or coming off when using my IPV 2 mini .... I have noticed though that battery wraps seem to tear when I use my dual battery mods. Just the act of taking the batteries in and out of the box mod is what is tearing the wrapping. This does not occur with the IPV 2 mini because it has a smooth tube shaped housing that the battery slides into.

    HI there,

In one of my LG HE2 batteries, the red plastic cover is peeling off from the bottom, is it safe to keep vaping in mechanical mods in this condition?

    Thanks

    Absolutely NOT.

Most mechs depend on that flimsy wrapper to act as an insulator, which is not what it really is. Is is just a wrapper.

If it is a top fired mech you'd be ok.
If it's a wood or plastic mech like the plastic beast box you'd be ok.

This is Something I have Never Understood about most Mech Mods.

How hard would it have been to include a Thin Insulator Sleeve into the design of a Mech Mod Tube?

plenty --- it might cost them an extra cent or two --- we can't have that so let's just let people blow their faces off instead :)

Since you mention that, there is the option of using the 26650 sized mechs with 18650 batteries using the plastic 18650/26650 sleeve adapters. Get enough of those sleeves and the user can leave them permanently on the batteries if the user has 26650 charger.

Also there are the plastic tube mods with metal on the outside

was thinking about something like this:

that i thought i saw, but perhaps i was mistaken.
    this one is steel.

I actually have a Couple of those 18650 => 26650 Sleeves. Many/Most 26650 LED Flashlights come with them.

no problem at all.... but it would make the tube 2-4 mm fatter.... and that would make them ugly ;) no one wants a fat tube :)
wouldnt bother me tho I like my 26650 mechs :)
