I'm using genuine* AW 18650 2000mah batteries in an Evic Supreme. I'm using an xtar Vp1 charger & charge them on the lowest setting. I'm finding that the power drops off fast. I change the battery at least twice a day. And increasingly when the battery level gets below 45% the output of the Evic is rubbish. I bought them at the end of March this year.

Is there another, equally high quality 18650 battery I can use with a higher rating?

*Bought from an AW approved UK reseller

I'm using genuine* AW 18650 2000mah batteries in an Evic Supreme.

Features of eVic Battery

SONY US18650VTC4 2100mAh high-safety, extra large capacity, and high-stability dedicated lithium battery
30 watt max
6 volt max
0.5 - 5.0 ohm atomizer
510 and Ego Threaded
Ohm meter
Puff Counter
Dimensions: 5-1/2"L x 15/16"D

Note: Only Joyetech eVic supreme standard battery (Sony VT4) can ensure the max output wattage. Never stack two batteries or use batteries that are not allowed for use in the eVic supreme.

---- Joyetech eVic Supreme Kit | Joye e-Vic Ecig APV

According to Joytech, they recommend a 30 amp battery for the Evic Supreme.

Your AW 18650 IMR 2000 mah battery is only a 10 amp battery.

The above recommended Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mah battery is only a 6.8 amp battery. These batteries were designed for flashlights.

In No Way would the NCR18650B 3400mAh, 6.8a Panasonic be a good choice for the Evic Supreme. The original Evic could get away with using this battery (just barley). I ran one in my Evic. But, I got the same runtime (or a little better) using a 10a Panasonic NCR18650PF in my original evic. And I hope to realize better service life by not running my battery on the ragged edge of its ratings. The NCR18650B puts out most of it's rated mAh's under 3.4v. Not of much use in a mod.

The Evic S ships with a VTC4 Sony. At a Minimum (IMHO) a 20a or higher, high drain Samsung or LG the 24a AW may be an acceptable substitute

Just speculating but the Evolv DNA 30 board can draw up to 12a. The Evic S is similar with its 30w output.

Regardless of how low you have the Evic set, I don't see the point in hobbling the device with an under spec battery.

The Samsung INR18650-25R retails for around $8 from reputable suppliers (Illumination Supply has them for that price). Cheap enough to buy two IMHO.

Edit:
The Samsung INR18650-25R is a FANTASTIC battery in my Hana. Performs as good as a VTC5 in this application in my experience

I'm getting the same with the Sony battery that came with it. Is there a better option? I've looked in your battery guide but I don't know which are unprotected IMRs.

If you are getting the same results with the vtc4 than your other batt's.. you should look at your settings and charge habits ? maybe the control head has a fault ?
As I said.. my vtc4 is working well, charging usb or joyetech charger and don't get any less performance at 10% battery..
Are you setting the evic for the mah rating ?

That's highly unusual then, assuming that the AW and Sony's you have are genuine batteries. There is no better option that I'm aware of.

Aside from some Orbtronic batteries which can be ordered with protection, all IMR batteries are unprotected. The only batteries listed in my guide are unprotected IMR or IMR/hybrid batteries.

Thanks for explaining. :) Do you think it is because of the age of the batteries, bought in March this year? Would it make a difference do you think if I could get a genuine vtc5 over the vtc4?

I don't know what you guys are doing or not doing with your supreme, but I can vape all day 17w 1.4-1.8 ohm coils 5(ish) volts on the OEM vtc4 and never fall below 70%
granted I'm not a chain vaper, but more moderate, perhaps you guys need to go into your settings and set up some power saving settings.
I have mine set
Screen off = 10min
system off = 30min
and put it in sleep mode when not in use.
Right now its aprox 3:05 pm CST and I've been vaping on mine since I got up at 6:30 am CST this morning and I'm just now at 97%
1.4 ohm coil 17watt 4.87volts getting a killer vape off the Eleaf Lemo and tank full of suecide bunny mothers milk.
Another thing why would you use an external battery charger when you have a perfectly good working built in micro usb charger on the supreme, perhaps you aren't getting a good full charge.

When I bought mine I ordered an extra vtc4 and rotate them out each week so that I'm not draining and charging the same battery over and over day in and day out.

FYI, The evic supreme has a "heart beat".... used a lot of power just sitting on all day. Might be nothing wrong with the batteries, just the nature of the beast. I tend to need to replace or charge 2-3 times to last all day when I used it.

Have you tried putting into Sleep mode when not in use? Also, have you programmed it with the software?
I haven't got it in sleep mode I have the screen set to go off after 1 minute (it won't let me do less than that). All the stuff I've read says sleep mode doesn't make much difference to battery life. But I don't know how accurate that is. If I put it in sleep mode I have to press it five times every time I want to start vaping again yes? That would annoy the hell out of me. Not sure what to do. I've used myvapors to change the boot screen, if that's what you mean. I've got no alarms set or anything fancy.

Depends upon on how hard the batteries have been used. I like to have a rotation of at least 4 batteries so that they can rest after charging. This "resting" has been said to be benefitual by Battery University, an authority on battery information.

I have a couple of AW 18650 IMR 2000mah batteries in my current rotation that are over 2 years old and still going strong as new. Its my belief that if I was only using the same 1 or 2 batteries they would not have lasted this long. I figured that I'd be spending money for more batteries eventually, so why not use more in rotation if I could prolong their expected life expectancy. Seems to have worked out for me.

A high quality charger is also important to keep batteries healthy. I don't leave my batteries in the charger once they have a full charge - some chargers provide a trickle charge after completing a full charge, which batteries do not like. Batteries kept at a full charge state lose their overall longivity. Again, Battery University.

IDK, I've got it set to shut off in 30, screen off in 1 and no screen saver or alarm and still.... sucks. As for power while vaping.... 100% to 90% in maybe half an hour of vaping with a 1.5-1.8 single coil at 10-12 watts. Perhaps some of these are actually defective from the start.... reason I got rid of it and stay clear of joytech products now. IMO, there's tons of e-cig makers.... screw me once, I'm done with ya.

That actually sounds reasonable 10% per hour of use is ok

Most batteries are rated to provide their full mAh ratings down to the specifed max discharge voltage. That voltage is usually much lower than the Evic 3.2v cout off.

I've got three AW 18650 2000mah & the one sony vtc4 that came with it. I use an Xtar Vp1 (genuine from a reputable shop & checked on the Xtar website for authenticity) on the lowest setting 0.25a. And I keep them in battery cases in order of when they were charged. The battery most recently charged goes to the back of the queue. I don't know whether to try the vtc5 or not. Assuming I can get them in the UK. Only one place I know that can be trusted to supply genuine ones has them & they appear to be out of stock.

Just googled looking for them & came across some posts on Reddit & another forum showing an email someone got from Sony saying they were only ever available to OEM's & that they have stopped manufacturing all 18650's completely.

Dear customer, thank you for your inquiry.
The 18650 type batteries are no longer manufactured by Sony.
This product was never intended for individual, public sale and are not eligible for warranty or engineering support.
It was only available to OEM makers of specific devices.
The specifications and markings on the battery may vary depending upon the OEM’s requirements. Therefore, it is difficult to determine the true manufacturer or authenticity of the batteries without physical inspection and manufacturing code research.
This type of battery is widely available on the internet market through non-authorized resellers.
Therefore, Sony is not liable for the performance or use of this type battery for non-intended purposes.
Such applications should be done at the user’s own risk.
Furthermore, any battery of this type claimed to be Sony brand may be older stock.
We apologize that we cannot offer further assistance with this matter.
Sincerely,
Media Services by Sony

I agree 10% per hour would be on par with the rest of the devices I have, however the Supreme is at 10% in 1/2 the time.... and that's only if I shut it down (turn off) between uses. If left on, it drains by an average of 1-2% per hour. I think this is because on the built in clock/calendar function that can not be turned off..... but the time/date still seemed to hold true when the battery was removed for a day or more. All in all, I just know I didn't last all day with the same batteries I carry with me, but in a different device (E-lvt, SID) they do last all day. Best power savings to performance goes to my K101 (kicked at 10 watts)..... all day with two 18350's.
