So I figured I'd take advantage of my newbie status and ask a question :)
I'm looking into a mechanical mod/hybrid.
Which battery should I use?
I know if I'm going with an 18650, good things have been said about the MNKE battery.
However, if the mod I buy doesn't have a configuration for an 18650, would be AW IMR 18350/18490 batteries or something similar be just fine? Of course, I'll look into whether or not I need a nipple top or flat top.
Thanks for looking!

With a mechanical mod the mAh is about the last thing that I look at. You will never use the full capacity because the vape will be so anemic you won't want to vape them past about half charge. Any good 18650 IMR will last the average person at least most of the day; even the "measly" 1500 & 1600 mAh batts. In fact the 1600 mAh AW IMR will outperform most of the higher capacity batteries in a mech mod because it holds a higher voltage longer.

I can't speak for the MNKE other than it has a faithful following. I have searched every resource that I could find for load test, but to my knowledge none exist.

AW IMR in any size is a good choice for a mech mod. The 18490 and 18350 are best in class.

18650 opens up a few more choices with the best being AW 1600, Pannasonic CGR18650CH, and the untested but highly regarded MNKE.

The "protected" batteries will often have a higher mAh rating than the high drain, IMR batteries of similar size. However, as pointed out above, the real time usage will be deceiving with the protected batteries.

The IMR batteries are actually safer than the so-called protected batteries because they use a safer battery chemistry. So overall, the IMR's are a better battery.
