Hello Fellow Halons! Hope you all are having a great evening.
I have a battery question that I hope is not bad news~

I received my Triton starter kit on January 9, so two months and one day ago. I got two 650 mah batteries with the kit. I am what I would consider a "light" vaper and one battery usually gets me through the whole day. So basically each of those batteries gets used every other day or so. (I also got a 900 mah in addition to the kit.)

Last week one of the batteries died during use without blinking first. I thought that was strange because I normally use them until they blink and then immediately recharge if it is early enough that I won't be going to bed before the charge is done. If it's late, I charge them in the morning. I'm home most days so I don't need to charge over night or top off and go to work like many of you do. (Dave taught me to NEVER leave a charging battery unattended and I haven't had to ignore his warning yet, LOL). Anyway, the battery had lasted as long as normal, so I just thought maybe I missed the blink. It blinked 6 times when I put it on the charger and the same when I removed it from the charger a little while after the blue light had become steady.

Saturday the other battery did the same thing. NO blink, just went dead at the end of the day. Charged up fine and today it did the same thing.
So within a few days of each other both batteries are now doing this.

I have read here that the batteries are normally good for 300 cycles. I've had them roughly 60 days with each maybe being charged MAYBE 30 times, tops. I always clean the posts with alcohol before charging and have followed all the tips so generously given here about keeping everything clean. Neither battery has been dropped.

Are my batteries about to die so soon? Isn't it odd that they would do this at almost exactly the same time? I'm also concerned about them no longer being safe, since I have my two little grand daughters here with me a few days a week. If it matters, they are both the Irridecense color.

Anyone have any thoughts or similar experience?
Thanks for any help!
Malinda

No, unfortunately, I wish it was something easy like that. I am kinda obsessive about taking care of my stuff~ They seem to be lasting as long as they should, just dying without the warning. I'm really going to be disappointed if this is all the life I get out of them without worrying that something dangerous could happen. I have heard enough stories to know not to mess with a battery that is wonky.
Thanks for the thought, tho!

Good on you for taking the necessary precautions. I wouldn't worry about it too much if they are performing just as they should and last as long as they should. They are charging within the proper amount of time, and the USB charging light sounds functional.

As a Lithium Ion battery starts to weaken from extended use, the amount of time you get off a full charge gradually diminishes. It's not going to blow up while you're using it. I have at least one G6 battery that failed and will not hold a charge at all, after just 75 charges, not 300 as advertised.

Give your Triton button a few (3-7) fast clicks... does it turn off? And a few fast clicks, does it turn back on?

I'm guessing it's a batch issue, as I know for a fact Halo uses different manufacturers for their tanks, all with subtle variances. This could very well be the case with the batteries too.

Thank you GreenLeaf. Yes the on/off clicks work, I checked that to be sure right away. The 900 mah battery is still working fine, but it has not had as much use. I got it as a back up and was about to get a 1300 or a VV (or both) when this issue came up. I hate to switch to something else at this point because I have purchased quite a few tanks, mini tanks, and cartomizers that will only fit these batteries so it would all be worthless. Hoping it is all OK.
Thanks again for your input.

it may be a batch issue read a few other complaints today in forums. Utt oh i just ordered another 900 vv battery today. will keep you posted. And dont worry like GreenLeaf says if your getting all day out of it enjoy it. Backs may be in order. This will be my 4th 2 v/v and 2 650S

Thanks psyc63, I will proceed with caution before buying more and hope for the best for a while.

No problem, enjoy your Tritons. They are solid performers.

1300 and VV are both excellent. :)

I consider myself a heavy vaper. I use two different e-pipes (alternately throughout the day), one of which takes an 18500 IMR 1100 mAH battery and the other takes an 18350 IMR 800 mAH battery (both Li-Mn). I have two sets of batteries for these pipes, which I change out each night and leave on the charger overnight.

As you can see, I'm not very picky about following the "rules" of rechargeable battery use. Nonetheless, I've been doing this for the past year and I'm still using the same two sets of batteries without any problems.

I'm not recommending that anyone anyone follow my example when it comes to battery use. Perhaps I've just got a set of particularly good batteries. Based on my own experience, though, I suspect that a reputable battery manufacturer and a good quality charger goes a long way towards protecting your batteries in spite of less-than-ideal consumer usage.

Nanny, I don't think there's a problem. Every so often, my bats do the same thing. I might be missing the "charge me " blinks. But they do this not often, then work fine afterwards.

I would not worry about this. No, they aren't ready to die. And they are very safe, especially when handled with care. Which you do!

Thanks for following common sense and charging when you are there. The few battery danger stories I've heard have all been user error. They used the wrong charger, charged it after it got very wet, or other abuse.

So, the blink signal doesn't work? No matter. They will still recharge and discharge just fine. My 2 650mAh irridescents are still going strong, after 5 months. As I said, and you know, these are very solid performers.

As far as the 300 cycles? Where the battery manufacturers get that is if they test a batch, charging and discharging, the capacity will diminish (the time of the discharge). When 50% of the batch diminishes to 75% of the capacity, they note how many cycles.

So, after 300 discharges, where you started with, say 10 hours, you'll get only 7.5 hours. But it will still function, and continue functioning, just lasting less and less.

Hope this sets you at ease. Smile. And vape on!!

I've been leaving my battery on the charger overnight sometimes. Don't mean to sound stupid, what could happen?

with all the safety features built into LiIon batteries, probably nothing. but there is a very very slim chance that should the safeties fail, and the redundancy fails, and the chemistry is off cuz the machine operator just broke up with his girlfriend of 6 years because she wanted kids but he didnt think they were ready, but i mean really, he's 40 years old, balding, has a dead end job, it's not going to get any better for him and she is way out of his league. Her friends always asked what she saw in him, great mysteries i guess...

if all those things come together, and your AC fails and it gets too hot in your place, you could have a thermal runaway while the battery is charging that may cause a fire.
