I'm new to replaceble battery devices, using a efest 18490 in a provari, 1.7 ohms at 3.5v.

I've done a good amount of horror story ready about these batteries and I'm very paranoid. I'm running them at very low amps around 2, and have not once felt them get even warm.

But whenever I take them out I smell the inside of my provari, and I smell the button top of the battery and I get like a sweet pez like smell. I have to have my nose right up to it, don't smell anything unless it's right up to my nose. I did smell a few extra battery wraps I got and did notice a faint similar smell.

Is this likely the battery wrap? Or a sign of something worse? Again no heat, low amps. What would a battery that's vented smell like?

Thanks

They don't show any signs before blowing up?

Heat?
I was under the impression they can vent a small amount of gas and still look the same?
I think he is noticing a smell and asking if the battery has vented. Not stating that they have vented. Trying to find out if they have.

Simple question and frankly, I would rather he asked and find out instead of just blindly going along. :)

Remember, there are no stupid questions :)

Yes I'm not even sure vented is the right word.

Basically I'm asking is there any sort of smell to look out for?

I believe what I'm smelling is the wrap on a new battery but just wanted to be sure. I'm not trying to mess around with these batteries with the massive amount of scary stories ive read about em

We have a member here that has devoted a considerable amount of time to battery safety and testing.

Here is one of his blogs: When should you replace a battery? | E-Cigarette Forum

IF that battery vented, at all, you wouldn't need to have your nose anywhere near the inside of the tube! It's a rancid acidic smell that will stick with you! Much like the smell of antifreeze the first time you overheat a car, you never forget that smell, believe me!
I appreciate your concern and respect your willingness and want to be safe, but there is nothing sweet smelling about a vented battery so I think you are fine.

Since I had no experience in smelling what a vented battery smells like, I did the best I could to point him in a direction where he might learn more ;)

Thank you for stepping in and clearing up some misconceptions!

It's an Efest, what you are detecting is the smell corrupt and cynical business practices and marketing BS.
It's difficult to tell if the smell is associated with anything anomalous, but it's unlikely. Luckily batteries are cheap so if you are in any doubt, replacement is an easy option for peace of mind.

does a Provari even have enuf capacity to vent a battery??? ;)

That's why we have a forum full of such helpful people! (Yes, I was chuckling as I typed that, so it's ok to laugh!)
What am I missing lol?

Do you mean the wattage limit on a provari should prevent drawing more current than the battery can handle?

Like I said it's my first replaceable battery device and I see these are the same type of battery's which have had fatal meltdowns so better be safe than sorry :x
