mAh stands for milliampere-hours, which is a measure of battery capacity or how long it will last between charges. The iStick 30w has a 2200mAh battery, if I recall, which is more than twice the capacity of a 900mAh battery. Also, the iStick is highly adjustable in volts or watts, where your "standard" battery probably refers to an "eGo pen" style which is only adjustable in volts, if at all, and only within a much more restricted range at that. Put simply, the iStick is much more versatile. It can do everything the ego pen can do, and more, such as fire lower-resistance tanks and atomizers, and/or fire them at higher power levels.

Hi, and welcome to the board. An iStick 30 will last longer between charges than a standard pen type eGo battery. It can also apply more power to your tank if you choose. It's an all around better piece of gear, and will probably give twice the service life of a pen type. If you're looking to move up, it's the next step and I recommend it.

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or ICR?

Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries

Rechargeable Batteries

There are different varieties of Lithium batteries used in vaping:

The internal, non-replaceable batteries in an iStick is LiPo chemistry. This is not a safe chemistry battery; they are often used in remote control cars and have been known to burst into flames or explode when they fail.

The round batteries which are replaceable and considered external are either IMR or ICR chemistry:

  • ICR are not safe chemistry and require protection circuits because they also can burst into flames or explode, and are presently considered to be obsolete for vaping purposes.
  • IMR are safe chemistry and are also called "unprotected", because they do not require protection circuits and will not burst into flames or explode. However, they can still vent hot gas when they fail.

In general, the larger the battery, the more capable it is for sustaining a higher voltage for longer period of time. The Ego style pen batteries are designed to be small, and lightweight. This comes at a price of not being able to support a higher voltage/wattage for a very long time. For that reason, high ohm atomizers are used on those pens.. which use less power and provide less quantity and heat of vapor. It's normal for those devices not to support lower than a 1.2 ohm coil.

There are some size standards in Lithium Ion batteries. The most common is what's called an 18650. The Istick has something similar inside of it. Those are larger in size than the pen style batteries, Because of that, they can provide more power. Most of them can support a lower ohm coils, which not only use more power, but provide more vapor. Most of them also offer a user interface that shows battery life, ohms of your coil, and power settings.

Whether or not a newer battery will last longer depends on how you vape. An 900 MaH ego using a 2.0 ohm coil uses very little power, and will last you a good long while. Not everyone needs heavy vapor all the time to satisfy them. If you were to use an Istick with your current atomizers, it would last quite a bit longer compared to your ego pen. However, if you decide to up the vapor quantity by going with a lower ohm coil, the battery time will go back down.

Now, one last note about batteries... Lithium ion batteries are subjected to a lot of sales hype. When someone is selling their battery to a manufacturer, they may list it as a 900MaH battery. That rating is only under certain favorable circumstances. under "normal" circumstances, it may run closer to 600MaH. That is common. The Istick 30 has a 2200MaH battery, but the "every day use" has been reported to be around the 2000MaH rating.

In conclusion, I do strongly suggest getting an Istick. They will more than likely last much longer than what you currently use. They have been proven reliable and are overall more durable than your standard ego pen. Because they're shorter and thicker, they are stronger from everyday stress put on them from putting them in your pocket. Think of a pencil in your pocket compared to small wooden block.. the pencil will more than likely break if you sit down, the block will just withstand the bend.

Guys thanks for your feedback. I'm constantly going threw Batterys and going threw atominizers. Going to buy the 30w istick or Ileaf I think it's called. I really appreciate all your comments and glad I've found somewhere that people actually know what they are talking about. If only I found this sooner.
You are welcome, my friend. That's why we're here. Next time, before you buy some gear, come and ask us about it. Chances are good somebody here has one, or had one, and can tell you the stuff you won't read on advertising pages. And once you have been around long enough to learn your way around, you can hang out here with us and help shepherd the n00bs :)

We have a number of members across the pond who can help you find quality suppliers in the UK far better than I. It's also true some products are more likely to be faked than others. There's a rash of faked IMR batteries, for example, but I have a hard time imagining anybody faking an iStick 30, for example. They are already sold so close to cost there really isn't any way to undercut it.
