Be Aware of How Much you Vape!

No offense to the OP or anyone else, but I'm concerned when anyone goes to the ER, connecting their sysmptoms to vaping.

Wouldn't that give the antis, the FDA et al, more ammo against us to ban the ecig?

(Or to regulate nic mg/ml strength so low as to be totally useless---once PM gets the go-ahead to market them).

With all due respect tikva, I have to disagree. If there is an illness that requires ER, doctors need to know everything. No matter how well I am doing on e-cigs, or the rest of us for that matter, others may be sensitive to the chemical or may accidently overdose.

I want my e-cigs too. But I don't want anyone to get hurt as a result either.

The OP reminds us not to over vape. Not a bad reminder at all.

Are regulations such a bad thing all the time? Or do we always want our juice to come from semi-regulated chinese factories with a history of shady quality control issues. At least if some kind of body in this country was giving it a stamp of approval, if something went wrong, then someone local could be held accountable. But like everything else, planes, trains and automobiles, it usually takes a death of someone for things to change. So I wouldnt worry to much. When one of us drops dead from a bad batch of liquid, then things will start being regulated. till then, I am sure business is going to go around as usual.

I completely agree with you. A person going to the ER most certainly needs to tell the doctors everything.

I worded my post very poorly and I apologise.

I didn't mean the patient should not tell the doctors about vaping, I meant that I'm worried about the doctors jumping to conclusions, as the example in the quote below suggests:
One of you wrote about attributing something to something new you're doing (or something to that effect) and I think maybe that is part of what happened here. I may have made an incorrect interpretation and then pulled the trigger too fast without thinking first. I guess part of that was that when I told the ER doc about the whole e-cig stuff and how much I was doing it he came to the conclusion that it "probably" was the cause. Of course looking at it now, I didn't ask if he had done any test that would prove it, I just assumed it would show up in the blood tests.
My apologies to the OP for suggesting s/he did anything 'wrong'. That was not my intent.

It's all good, tiv.

Sometimes when I post to a thread, it sounds so good in my head...and I post...only to have 84,000 responses ripping me a new one because either I didn't relay my thoughts correctly, or it was misinterpreted. So I can understand completely. Thank God for "edit" huh? :D

I'm actually very curious as to what Lookin2quit may have had, or if it has happened again.
Lookin2quit, are you doing ok now? Has this happened again?

I'm curious because I remember 1 morning (many months ago) when I lit a (real) cigarette I got horribly dizzy, sick, sweaty and probably could not have stood up if I had tried. This lastest about 5 minutes, then I was ok.

Of course in your case it was not an analog and you were not vaping either (at the time of the episode).

But, my sickness sounds very similar to yours...just wondering how or if the 2 connect?

I blame withdrawals from quitting. during week 2 I got a fever and felt TERRIBLE. cold sweats everything. week 3 and forwards I feel GREAT! Muscle through it and you'll DEFINITELY be glad you did! If you really think it was the nicotine (which I dont think it was) just lower the strength of the dose.

Good luck! It goes SO fast I'm already approaching two months and preparing to go to low strength!

NOOOO remember that not everyone is the same, has the same lungs or the same allergies. Also, take into account age, cardiovascular problems, lung diseases, bacteria, and other environmental issues. I can do a cause and effect too.. which will make sense to me, but to another person, will leave them shaking and scratching their head. For example, I chain vaped PG based 24 mg eliquid and then went into the hospital with pneumonia. I was given iv antibiotics, and was back in the emergency room in less than a week because the medication for the pneumonia seemed to have fried my gall bladder. Now... did the medication do it, or did my gallbladder get infected, or was it just causing problems all along? NOBODY knows. This man may have had underlying issues that need to be addressed. Maybe he has cardiovascular problems that the hospital doctors have yet to find. E-smoking is infinitely better for everyone than regular smoking. There is no doubt. Although I am no longer using my e-cig regularly I still own it, and I am grateful that it is an option for my mother.

Yes please. I'd rather have it come from semi-regulated chinese factories with a history of shady quality control issues than from the FDA with a history of shady quality control issues and a totally corrupt Administration.
Hope you won't need a Blood Transfusion anytime. You never know where it's come from. Neither do the FDA who are supposed to regulate it (but don't)
Hey while your at it i'd get rid of that Computer your using. (made in China) It could be infecting you right now.8-o

Nothing I would ever recommend, but when my doctor prescribed the patch years ago I found it did nothing to even slow down my 4-5 pack-a-day habit. I even tried up to 3 patches (for which my doc SCREAMED at me) at once and still smoke 4-5 packs. Not once did I hit a state of OD.

Since it has been proven that vaping gives us less nic than smoking, I highly doubt this was a nicotine OD.

I thought a friend of mine was crazy for smoking while he had ONE patch on.

That is both epic and a little nuts IMO lol.

Congrats on leaving em behind!

Okay, so I figured I'd update you all, and also apologize once again for writing that post in the first place. I've been doing better ever since that episode, so yeah, I guess I mis-attributed the vaping for what went on. I kind of equate it to "med school student syndrome" where they get every disease they read about just because they're attributing symptoms. So, I'm sorry again, though I do think in general it is a good idea to watch how much you vape, just because as someone said, we don't really know if the juice will ultimately effect us negatively or not. And we also don't know how it will react with some of the medications we may be on (which might also be the case for me, since I'm on a bunch of meds). Seeing my doctor today for a follow-up so I'll ask him the results of the tests (the ER doc basically just said they were "fine") and what the diagnosis was that they gave me (it wasn't written on the discharge paper).

There was medical research done a few years ago, kept quite quiet, that those with thyroid problems, or even potential problems, will likely have problems if they decrease their nic levels, since the metabolic boost in nic makes up for the missing thyroid hormones. I have a bad thyroid, and have actually experienced bed-spins and stomach upset, as well as the usual hypothyriod issues, since I started off vaping very lite on the nic. Working with my endocronologist now..but you never know how you'll react to major changes in body chemisty!!

Thanks for that information. I know at one point my doctor had said that my thyroid level was "within limits" but on the low side, so I'll be sure to ask him today so I can see if anything has changed. And yeah, body chemistry can definitely mess you up. Don't know how many times they've had to change some of my meds because of it!

Please don't feel so bad. We need to know if there is a problem and we appreciate your sincerity. Let us know what you find out today - best of luck.
