just wanted to brag, my bargain shopping and patience paid off, i went to a local store and finally found a coveted bottle of USP grade PG, one gallon for $21.95.

and luckily a good friend wants to split it, bc really, do i need a whole gallon? i'll never be out of fluid, and i don't think i could beat that price anywhere :)

(for those in the Tulsa area, this was at the Stillwater Milling Company in Claremore, OK, but i bought the last bottle)

oh, side note, it does say that it's "USP" grade, and also says "for animals only."

i'm not being swayed by that, i think that discussion has been beaten to death that if it's USP grade, it doesn't matter if it says it's for puppies or cows or trees or whatever. i just don't think there's a "human" use for a gallon of PG, so there's no reason it would even say that it's safe for people anyway.

;)

wait, there's a difference in animal grade and USP grade. "feed" grade for animals is not the same as USP grade.

i was just pointing out the humor that some bottles do say USP grade and also "for animal use only" and i personally would not recommend using anything that does not say "USP GRADE" on the bottle.

but to each their own.

I bought mine at CVS pharmacy their own brand and it says "Pure Glycerin USP" Skin Protectant.
Active ingredients - Glycerin 99.5% Anhydrous.

So, what kind is it - Propylene Glycol or VG?

I bought some of that and then noticed the "for external use only" on the label. Just to be safe I went out and bought NOW VG, 100% pure, at Whole Foods.

well most of that comes down to "splitting hairs."

companies don't make PG or VG for us to consume, except for the Wilton's brand Glycerine that is made for cake icing.

the technical argument is, if something is 100% USP grade PG or VG, then that's what it is.

if it says 100% USP grade VG and "for external use" it's the same VG as if the bottle didn't say that, AT LEAST BY DEFINITION OF LABELING IT 100% USP GRADE.

don't quote me on that, but just saying that's why the "usp" label is there :) i personally would not use PG that does not say 100% USP grade. now, VG is a bit different, but the same technical argument with that is, if it's 100% VG, then that's all there is to it. external use or not, if it's 100% VG, there should be nothing but the same VG that doesn't have that warning.

with me?

:)

however, i use the NOW brand VG as well, and haven't tried others, so that's a good one to use.
