so i have been smoking since i was 12 or something. that was 35 yrs ago. i'm getting tired of smoking. i still enjoy it, but once done, i'm now noticing that i stink. i don't feel good, and just leave that guilty feeling i'm going to die on my kids. tried quitting few times, and it worked until the stress start mounting up.

so i'm looking into vaping. it's not smoking, and i heard it's not as bad as smoking and it doesn't stink.

no idea what i'm looking for. read a ton of things on battery. i'll probably make my first purchase soon. mech mod, RDA, batteries and charger. i heard long time smokers saying vaping does help them and it meet their need. i hope that's the case. $100 in all that isn't exactly cheap.. clones, clones, clones..

i read the RDA, and RBA aren't all that different. if you set them up right, you really shouldn't notice the difference.

i'm thinking about following.

1:1 Penny mod clone from FT
1:1 Stillare from FT, OR Taifun GT from FT

which atomizer will work better with Penny clone?

i guess including medical cost and all that, i'm sure it is. but just comparing cig and e-juice.. how long a 3ml e-juice last typically? a pack of smokes will get me by for 1 1/2 days. that's around $5.25 here. i noticed some of the e-juice are very expensive.

Pete. Seriously. How long would it take you to spend $100 on cigarettes?
I started smoking in my teens, and at age 63, I stopped last January. It has changed my life and I can tell you I feel about a zillion times better and my whole family is thrilled. Especially my mother, who couldn't quit until she developed emphysema.

Welcome to ECF! I was a 40 some year smoker here. I certainly would NOT recommend a mech and RDA to begin with. An MVP2 and either a Mini Nautilus or an Aerotank would be much more suitable (and cheaper). No need to buy batteries or a charger. The MVP comes with a tank but they aren't very good in my opinion.

Wow! You're skipping a lot of steps! lol I think $100 to start out will buy a really good setup that you should be happy with for a long time. Yes, at first, it will seem like a lot to spend but the maintenance cost should be minimal.

Ouch, $15-$30 a bottle....that seems excessive unless you're looking at the premium eliquids that are out there. I've spent $22 on a 30 ml bottle of Witchers Brew when I first started vaping but that's the most I've ever spent and I still have about 15 ml of it!

Most of my juice ranges from 2.99-5.99 a bottle for 10-15 ml.

Welcome aboard
Yes the initial buy in to vaping can be a little intimidating. But what does lung cancer, COPD cost? Getting the right hardware and juice combo, Priceless.
I use 4-5 ml/day, juice $0.25 - $1 per ml depending on where you buy and in what quantity. Note: I chain vape.
Buying small qtys are much more expensive.
The only concern I have is with your plan for hardware. Starting out with a mech and rebuildable tank is worrisome. I had been vaping for a year and had an electronics background before I tried my first mech mod. To start out with the learning curve associated with vapeing, finding Safe Batteries, building coils and wicks. assembling the necessary tools, ohm meter, kanthal wire, wicking material, hand tools. You might want to reconsider and go for something like a MVP2 kit to get going and then take the next steps. In other words check out the depth of the water before you dive in, just my $0.02.

I recommend Mt. Baker Vapor or ITC Vapes for great prices and delicious juices. You'll start with tobacco flavors; most of us do, but then, when you realize there is a whole wide wonderful world of flavors out there, you can REALLY start having fun! And I also suggest you NOT start with a mod. I've been at this a while and I still don't use one.

sorry for spamming. will stop :) thanks everyone.

i would think i spend $26 a week. so compare to that $15 isn't so bad. but some of those e-juice are rather expensive. going up to $30..

how much e-juice in that $15 bottle?

That's 30 ml. Shop around, there are a zillion e-juice vendors and prices are all over the board. High quality stuff seems to run between $15 and $20 per 30 ml. I haven't been at it long but have put a ton of time into looking up equipment and juices.

ITC has the best prices I've seen and am currently using their Dirty Dutchman. I don't have much experience with various vendors but a number of posts state that ITC juices are mediocre. What's your take on that and are there any other ITC vapes flavors I might try... looking for dessert types, not fruity. Thanks!

I would also recommend Mt. Baker Vapor, good juice, low prices and ships fast.

I have been vaping a little over 6 months and I'm still not using a mech mod. I really don't see a reason unless I'm turning this habit into a hobby. I did just purchase a Vamo V5 so I don't have to keep throwing away expensive VV batteries. $25 for my Smok Winder, lasted 4 months, throw away (example). Now I will only have to purchase 18650 batteries at a much cheaper price than the VV batteries. I will use my Kanger Aerotank with the Vamo. Not a bad setup in my opinion. I agree with others here, don't start off big, start off wise and test the waters first. Make sure you like vaping and that it works for you.

I think their juices are very good, and I'm a bit of a juice snob. I'm not big on desserts, though, more of a fruit flavor lover.

Your ahead of me because you found this great forum before you started buying.

I would have skipped the eGo batts and spinners if I could do it over. They are a great option and work very well if the budget is very tight or a small thin form factor is important. I manage to break them though and my broken pile would have paid for my VTR or any of my other regulated mods.

If you have the money, and sounds like you do, there are a number of decent replaceable battery regulated mods to choose from that you can get the mod, batteries, charger and a decent tank for well under 100 bucks all together.

Once you find a flavor that hits all the spots, you can get great deals on premixed juices when you start buying 4oz or more at a time.

hardware set up is rather straight forward and i don't have any issue understanding the ohm law and related topics. things that concerns me are choices of atomizer, type of e juice, and reputable battery. mod is basically a tube that's holding the battery. mechanical, and doesn't have anything really to break down, unless i start to drill it or hammer it. copper will be my choice for great conductivity. atomizer in itself is no big deal. just need to make sure there is enough resistance to not over draw from the battery. i have few multimeters to check all that. making coil isn't too much hassle either.

most of questions i have are which type of atomizer is best. i think tank is a good idea. using syringe, i can measure what i'll need to put in the tank for that day. but at the same time, RDA also seems to be a good choice. i'm not sure how much difference that will make. and really don't want to get ton of stuff to find out. e juice in a drip bottle, or in the atty (is that what atomized is called?). will the juice in the tank pick up some off taste? what if i don't finish the juice that day. how long can it stay in the tank?

is there any good cherry flavor e juice? something like those dutch master or some cigar.

taste is subjective. as much as i have been smoking, i can still taste and smell subtle things. i enjoy cooking and my smell and taste sense are still rather good. so getting samples or small bottles to scan through the selection seems to be a good idea.

just rambling... :)
