Before I Ask: About Me

Status
Not open for further replies.
I'm going to ask the question that crops up most (I imagine), but before I do, I'll provide some information on myself so as to help with suggestions.

First, and most importantly, I want to quit smoking. Originally it was for the purpose of saving money, and then I found out pretty much every male in my family has died from smoking related issues. (Not terribly close with my fam, beyond my mom, bro, and sis) So now, obviously, it's a health issue.

I'm not looking to become an e-cig hobbyist. There is nothing wrong with that, but I simply want results, bang for my buck, etc.

I love smoking (but want to quit!) and something that will closely emulate the experience will be great.

I am not overly concerned with mimicking the look of analog cigs, but at the same time, I don't want to be puffing on something that looks like a Co2 cartridge.

Being able to just buy carts (avoiding "juice" or whatever the term is) would be nice as well.

Again, looking for results, without the hobby.

So, question time.

What would you suggest for someone with the above criteria? (And where could I get it?)

Thanks all for taking the time to read this!

Hi FritzC,

First of all you must really decide how committed you will be on this experience. Not imposing that you should be an e-cig geek like most of us, but you really have to put some minor efforts in order to have a great experience, and that means filling carts, cleaning atties and taking care of your life saver e-cig. That is really less painful than dealing with ashtrays.

It is also decisive if you want the best bang for the buck. Filling carts or cartomizers is WAYYYYY less expensive than popping new ones every time.

So, imo in order to point you to any model, you must decide how much you want this to be a great experience.

I can guarantee that I'm going to commit to this.

Also, when i say that I'm not really looking to be a hobbyist, I don't mean that I won't put time into it.

I'm willing to do what it takes to kick this habbit. I've smoked for years and I'm finally to the point in this career that I can say I'm done. I haven't had any luck with any other alternitives.

Cleaning, filling, these are all thing's I'm willing to do, I enjoy tinkering, I'm just not out to collect, I guess.

Of course, I said that when I started rolling my own cigs, and now I can hand roll, tell you about the quality of various papers, etc, so it's possible I would be come a hobbyist. Health is my goal, but if the other parts of this...hobby?..come in to play, that's cool too.

Hope that helps and thanks for the reply!

You might find the hobbiest side of it a little more appealing then you originally think. I did. Even if you don't, I think you will have luck with an ecig.

I am a new user, so I can't help much with specific products to try, but I do have one suggestion. My friend was the first person I knew to try an ecig, and it has not worked for him. Part of the problem (I think) was that he got a cheapo one and it wasn't very impressive. I wrote it off myself after trying his. After using mine however, (510) it's a whole different story. Very glad I decided to give it another go. Much different experience to me. Do your homework (looks like you are) and spend the money to get one that will really work. I think you will love it. Good luck!

I know you want to mimic a real cig but I do suggest that you get manual batts no matte what model you choose. The auto batts tend to "smoke themselves" if the conditions are right (outside with the wind blowing just a bit, air pressure change etc.) As portguy mentioned the 510 is a great kit, not only for beginners. The eGo offers much longer batt life but if you're going for cosmetic issues the 510 would be a good one.

Welcome to the forum and don't be shy about asking questions

I agree with the member above who said the 510 and recommended cignot.com . You have the options of using carts or going with the juice. I'm new to all this and went with the blucigs. and then got my husband the 510 w/manual bat. We are both trying to quit smoking and the 510 is better for that. I also like his manual battery. My blu (auto bat) was goin off in my pocket the other day for no reason. I was in my house and just walking around. (So no wind to set it off).

The best price I found for the 510 was at cignot. It's only 35 for two full ecigs. But you will need to buy some juice or additional carts cuz the carts they give you won't last long. You can also get the starter kit with a PCC 2 full cigs, 2 bot of juice and 5 carts for like 65 bucks. My hubby wanted the PCC so we went with the second one. Also shipping with cignot was super fast.

But shop around maybe you'll find a better deal than I did. I'm still shopin around and looking where I can get what for better prices and quality. It's all a learning experience.

Thanks all for the comments!

So, I've been looking in to it more, based on your suggestions and it seems a 510 is in order, and then some...juice? I've put it together that this is the stuff in the cart.

Any suggestions on the e-juice stuff? Or at least a go-to place to shop (online)?

In an analog I prefer Menthol (specifically Camel Menthol) but I've seen that you can get flavors ranging from Marlboro to Coconut (which sounds fantastic).

So again, thanks ya'll, and where should I look for e-juice, empty carts, etc.

Oh, while I'm here, I went to cignot, I see the kits available, what all will I actually need to get started. It appears that the kits come pretty stacked, but is there anything else I should throw the green-backs at?

Thanks guys/gals/other!

I agree with what everyone said, however the Ego which I love , does mean messing with juice and attomizers
It sounds like you are looking for a quick no commitment solution,
That would be a 2 piece device ( 510 /Ego are a 3 piece)
I have to say get a kr808, several suppliers on the forum sell them.
screw on a prefilled cartomizer and go. Thats it. when the cartomizer is empty screw another one on. Incredibly simple no mess. If you really want to mess with juice you can refill the cartomizers.
It is more expensive to buy them prefilled but there is a huge selection of flavors in prefilled too,
value4 life has the most flavors, and a good kit.
Others have them too.

the 510 is a great starter choice. we like the manual as well. Since the end of December 09 we've tried several different ecigs and the 510 is by far the best starter. I would recommend getting a couple of small juices just to TRY and see if you like a different flavor.

i was a menthol smoker, P-funks menthol lights, and am now onto the dessert type flavors and coffee flavors. I tried menthol juice from several different vendors, you're just not going to match the taste. So, I would suggest several sample juices, they're cheap...get some blank cartridges and test it out. You might find you don't want to find the perfect menthol taste after trying some of the flavors out there, it's insane really.

diyflavorshack - I've found - has the best juices...the flavors are awesome. She also has little sample packs to test the waters with.

good luck :) let us know what you all nab :D

You might do well to consider buying two 510 kits at the outset. $70 isn't a bad investment. (Gracious--there are now states where you have to pay that for a carton of cigarettes, aren't there?) And that gives you a solid start-up inventory of batteries and atomizers.

If I had it to do over again, I would have avoided a lot of frustrating cartridge hassles by going much sooner to direct dripping onto the atomizer most of the time. If you read through some postings about cart mods (to increase juice capacity, consistency of juice delivery, reduce leakage, etc.), the sum and total lesson may be that 510 cartridges can be troublesome. So even though cartridges are the default mode of 510 use, and dripping might seem like an advanced hobbyist technique, it could be argued that dripping is less muss & fuss for the casual user.

I would recommend the ego with cartomizers or as another person said, the Kr808. Both of these would be considered to be "less time consuming" as they are 2 piece instead of 3 piece. I would avoid the 510, my kit from cignot lasted @6 weeks and now I have all this useless equipment for the 510 system, too much money not well spent.

You also might like Ken's Boxmod for only $27.00, if low price is what you're after.

ecigarette-mods.com will give you many choices to look over.

To start 2 pieces is what kept me going. I would definitely recommend an eGo. If I go out an about I use my eGo with an adapter (501 to 808) from altsmokes and cartos that I refill and juice from v4l. Or I can use the atomizer that came with it if I feel like dripping at home.
When I started last yr I had 2 and 3 piece models. In the beginning I always liked the 2 piece models for ease of use and getting use to not smoking. Now I like vaping so much that I mess around with a bunch of things and am experimenting more.

I myself am very new to vaping, actually just recieved mine Friday. I read over everything and was so overwhelmed at what I should get and changed my mind many many times. I ended up going with the Vapor King from Vapor4life.com. It is a 2 piece so all you have is the battery and a cartomizer that you put on the end. I wanted simple and you cant get much simpler then that. I also went with the manual batteries because of imput from the forum. They have alot of different kits you can get starting around $40 and the best kit being $89.50. I went with the more expensive package because it looked like alot of stuff I would end up ordering in the future anyways. It also comes with a pack of 5 cartomizers that you can choose your flavor. They have sample packs of the cartomizers also so you can try out different flavors until you find the ones you really like.

Good luck to you, and hope it you enjoy whatever you choose.

Have tried it all. 510 is the way to go, and parts are easy to find from several suppliers. If you want to go eGo, 510 chargers and attys can be adapted, essentially the same thing with more juice (power that is) PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES. I went blu, smoketip, m401, 510. Wish I had just took the good advice I got from the beginning and got a 510. Just look at the model specific forums if you are unsure. 510 is at the top of the list for a reason.

a note on juice: for that perfect menthol, vermontvapors has juice with actual tobacco flavoring to it, really good. Also, since menthol is tobacco with menthol in it, and most of the menthol juice is really mint flavor, add a little mar-bro or camel juice to it(maybe 3 parts mint to 1 part marbro) to better reproduce that menthol cigarette taste.
